Noob Question bout Midi Keyboards
Posted on: 05.12.2011 by Lanette Heinitz
Hi All!

so im deciding between 2 keyboards:

Akai LPK 25 and the Axiom 25

the question is, do I really need all the knobs and modulation/pitch bend sliders on the keyboard or will the Akai get the job done with just the keyboard?

I'm combining it with the Maschine

thx all!

I have the lpk and like it just fine. Really only find myself using it to play with different synths outside of my daw and in massive. I honestly couldn't imagine what I would do with knobs and faders with my current setup

i'm gonna mess your world and tell you to consider the alesis q25. I looked at both units you looking at and went for the q25 in the end...

I'd go with an Oxygen 25 or any other keyboard with pitch and mod wheels. Those things are handy.

I am also looking at a Midi keyboard. Do you guys recommend the SL MKII? I like the 25 key.

yeah, it's all personal preference. if you have the extra knobs/faders you could use them to control things, if you take the time to program them.

i personally like them, but everyone does it different.

I have the MPK49 from Akai and it has pads faders and knobs which i never use....

I just find it not as accesible as my mouse is my hand naturally adjusts things with the mouse so having those other buttons is useless to me personally i also have a mpd26 so the pads are a waste of time

Well on the maschine your gonna have pads and nobs, so why why spend so much on a keyboard to have more nobs and pads? with the key station or similar you get keys and modulation with pitch bend at an affordable price, However and I'm not 100% sure but depending on your DAW you may not be able to use the nobs on your maschine on synth's and effect's while using your keyboard, That's were getting the Oxygen would be better, you get nobs on the keyboard and with 99.9999% they are easily assignable. So what DAW are you using?

i have the older axiom, and i don't really use it that much aside from just playing notes. but i like having the pitch bend, and modulation bend. i would suggest to go for it.
