Hey everyone

I've been working on this track lately and would really appreciate some extra ears. Most of it is built around the bassline and some stab chords with vocals sampled from Louie Austen.

In terms of the arrangement, I was believeing I was pretty close - is there a particular issue / something that I'm not hearing?

I believe using the bassline for a "4am Dub" would be a dope idea, and make this more loungy. The reason I mentioned the bassline and the way it's pushing is because you said it was a "Deep House" track, which are more known for their chilled laid back grooves, the opposite of what your bassline/hats are doing.

As for the arrangement, I'd say you're a bit off if you're expecting DJ's to play this as there's no intro/outro at all. You have the main body it sounds like, just add an intro/outro and you'd be golden.

And also, maybe I missed it, but try and add some automation to give it some movement and character instead of it being so stagnant, or some little drum fills/flares to break it up a bit.

Here's a bit of an update of how the track is going. I've changed the bass, added a few bars at the start and end, tried to exaggerate the automation, changed the hi hats and a few fills here and there.

It's just a quick render as an update. I believe it could come down a couple of bpm (it's at 126 at the moment, 124 might work).

Thoughts on the direction it's heading?

True about deep house being more laid back, I guess I started with the bassline and never went back and reviewed it. Would be good to strip it back a bit and create a more loungey feel on this version.

About the arrangement: Yep see what you mean. I originally had an intro and outro (mostly drums for mixing) but took it out for easier listening for a more general audience. I'll throw a few bars back in.

I have some automation going on the filter cutoff and resonance of the stab / delay chords but perhaps it is not obvious enough - I didn't want it changing too quickly. I'll have a look at that again and yeh some drum fills would mix it up a bit (at the moment it's just the occasional hi hat hits).

Thanks for those critiques - I'll (hopefully) get into the track again over the next few days and will have a new version up soon.

@bazzfc: Glad you like it! Once I have the track finished I'll probably make it available for download through my soundcloud

Good stuff so far, really digging everything except that bassline to be honest. A bit too much "push" from it compared to the rest of the track. Same with the hi hats. Just try and go for a more laid back, lazy feel as it's going against what the rest of the track is doing.

And I would imagine that this isn't the final arrangement
