Banging drops

Banging drops

Hi,
I'm learning production, and as one of the first steps I'm trying to create the sound i have in mind with some VST.

But I was believeing about something :
For a drop, basically a single note that last 1 or 2 "beats" (1/4 or 1/2 of a bar), does everyone use a VST ? Is that acceptable to use samples packs and tweak them ?

I know samples packs shouldn't be use for leads and stuff, because if you want to have several note, the sound will be pitched up, and it won't sound as nice as a sound made with a VST. But what about single bass note for a drop ?

Thanks in advance.

i'd say whatever works for you. to get a full sound you're going to layer stuff anyway so nothing wrong with layering a sample that just fits your needs.

it's always good to get better at synthesis though.

I'll try to explain it in a better way.

i.e.

When the hook starts at 1:11, for the first beat it's only a single bass note like "PEEEWWWWWWW".
Is this common to use sample from sample packs for this ? Or it should be done using a VST ?

samples can be used for about anything you likr. you will have way better results when you chop em up thouh. nothing worse than a synth lead that you find in different tracks. i mainly use sampled drums loops to layer over my programmed srums and sample a little myself from original trscks or other audio soirces.

other than that i dont get yoir question. are we talking about the same drop? the moment the hookline comes in after a buildup? "when the bass drops" ?
