Dorie Scelzo 26.01.2012 | The audio interface matters way less than the speakers. There is definitely an audible difference, but it's not /really/ evening
& day compared to the difference between levels of monitors. I'm not a huge fan of the Yamaha monitors, but only because I hear ns-10ms on a regular basis. They're definitely more colorful than the design they were supposed to be based on, but they're also a lot more forgiving (read: less annoying) for casual listening. And, no, nothing reproduces sub bass except a sub. You don't necessarily need one in a bedroom studio, but it's important to listen with a sub at some point during your mixdown so you get the right balance. Tarekith has written some about that, and my experience matches his, not that it's saying much. If you can't afford good monitors, then get whatever you can that doesn't specifically ruin the sound (meaning no modern hifi systems) and listen to your track in as many places as possible and make notes. That's another reason to send your tracks to a mastering engineer with a dedicated room. They're another set of well-trained ears and can find things you can't. Then, they either fix them at that stage or tell you what needs to be fixed in your mixdown, usually for 5 to 30 dollars per recorded minute (or a flat rate). |
Josefina Schutten 25.01.2012 | ah i'm using the audio interface of S4.... |
Breana Singerman 24.01.2012 | Here's the deal, KRK's are great for making noise, but horrible for producing. Period. They just colour the sound way too much. For the $200 price range, you really would be better of getting a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones. The DT range (770, 880, 990) is probably the best you'll get in that price range and even a few above it. Rather neutral, flat frequency response, don't colour the sound at all and are VERY comfortable for extended use. As for bass response, there's no headphones out that that can beat a good old sub. If you're trying to do it in the headphones all you're doing is taking an educated guess on what you believe you're hearing as they aren't accurately representing what's there. For monitors that are budget friendly and who will give you a fighting chance I would look in the the Yamaha HS series (10 is the sub, 50 and 80 are the actual monitors). They are rather full sounding, clean and decent punch for their price range. Another question you guys are forgetting to ask is what kind of interface you should be looking into. You could have the best monitors in the world, but if your interface is garbage you're all ready colouring the sound and losing some quality before it even reaches them. |
