How to record Moog LP through Duet 2?
Posted on: 27.01.2012 by Johnsie Kingrea
Hey guys I don't know what i'm doing wrong but I can't get any sound to show up from my LP into the Duet 2. I'm running a 1/4" - XLR from the Moog into one of the inputs on the Duet 2. Everything is routed properly in Ableton but i'm not getting anything. What the hell am I doing wrong?

Just leave the pan knob at 12 o'clock

how can I centre it in a mix? Wouldn't that pretty much be like recording in stereo?

There's no such thing as "always", but traditionally bass is usually mono and down the center of a mix.

I knew it was a mono synth I guess I was confused that the headphones output is stereo and you only have the mono output to record from. I read somewhere that bass is always recorded in mono, can you give any insight to that?

Yeah, it's a mono synth.

Very first sentence from the Moog website

"The Little Phatty is a true analog monosynth in every sense: it's a monophonic, monotimbral, monaural subtractive synthesizer"

Good to know you did your homework! = p

Hey Nephew, got it working, turns out I needed to put the duet 2 into Mic mode for input. I didn't get any sound when the input was set to instrument. Now my next question is the moog output is only mono? Is that normal?

Could be a number of things to trouble shoot. I would start by making sure the Duet 2 is set up as the interface in Ableton, then make sure the LP is actually making any sounds it self. Make sure the track is record armed and even open up and check the Duet 2 software it comes to make sure everything is good there.
