What type of music hardware is capable of creating new sounds and beats, aswell as what type of hardware would be best for creating loops on the spot

Right, but part of being competitive in that market is being taken seriously. They already have the MPC name, so that goes a good way. But it might actually be a smart business move to price it $100 to $200 higher than the comparable Maschines just so they're not considered budget options.

The fly won't be, and the mid-level one will definitely cost over $500.

Reading through it sounds like Maschine would definitely be worth having a look at. Gives you good software integration and the ability to do things on the fly

so with the sp 404 do i need an sound card? because i want something that i can plug into my laptop via usb 2.0 and hook it up to ableton or traktor

i got around 400-500 to spend, and im looking to incorprate it into my live dj sets so i can create beats/loops live

There are many options out there.. what do you want to do with these loops? Incorperate them into a dj set? and how much do you want to spend on this?

depends on what you want to do... if you just want to capture short loops while playing live you could go with a roland sp 303/404 (if you're looking for portability go with the 404 or an mpc 500), if you want to create or modify existing sounds/samples i would look to the korg electribes. if you'd prefer something you can integrate with a laptop the ni maschine or possibly the arturia spark would serve you well. it really comes down to what you want to do and how much you're willing to spend...
