How's my Mix/Master?
Posted on: 27.12.2011 by Christopher Smathers
Hey everyone. I just finished a dubsteppy-moombahcorey remix or Porter Robinson's 100% in the Bitch and its the first song I've attempted to mix and master myself so I wanted to see what you all thought (and how the tune in general is).

thanks! please leave a comment if you like it!

And I will raise the sub as well. I've always been a little weary about having too much sub because Im afraid I will get to muddy.
You can use a good mastering tool like Ozone and it has a few neat tricks to boost fidelity (heightening) The mix is fine. Don't believe about it as boosting individual eq's but just getting a nice flat full mix and then raising everything after you mixdown in the mastering process. As far as the sub bass just try a maximizer on the low end frequencies and tighten it up. Think punch, not loudness.

The sub 100 hz could use a boost too. It's loud but it isn't rich. Hope that's not too critical.
the thing about overdrive is what i meant by harsh. overall the sound was very good though. you can't trust my ears though as i've been producing all day today

i always record my mixes so your track might just get on there next time. gotta carry some more moombahcore bangers together. if you have any suggestions let me know. i loved amplifire and reptiles theme by diplo/skrillex pkus the munchi remix of firepower.

plus i have my latest original tune on my soundcloud as well, always looking to improve!

It's pretty squashed and leaning heavily towards the midrange IMO, definitely crunchy ala some overdrive/distortion going on. Sometimes this happens when the release is set too fast on the mastering limiters/compressors. Definitely possible to get a track this loud without so much distortion though, so I'd recommend going back and trying to master it without the Multipressor.

I'd recommend just going back to the mixdown to bring out any sounds you need EQ'd, etc. Try and keep the actual processing you use in the "mastering" as simple and minimal as possible. It's a good track, just sounds shredded from overprocessing later in the game.

no not at all thats very helpful thanks for the input. I actually did bounce the track and then master the individual audio track. I used the multipressor in Logic and I might have overdone it and maybe pushed the gain too much on the limiter. In terms of getting the sounds to pop more, after I'm not clipping, should I just EQ boost the frequencies that I need to pop or should I go back in the actual mix and raise volume/eq better ect?

thanks. This is very very helpful

Does anyone have any thoughts on the tune itself?

hey thanks I really appreciate it!! You should record your set that would be cool for me lol. I actually don't like the mix that much. I might be being too critical but there are some things/sounds I'd like to change/bring up.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on the mix?

thanks DJTT
