I just got maschine up and running yesterday, started to play around and watch some tutorials, however my internet is painfully slow. I was checking out some samples and loading them to pads yesterday, this seemed to me a very slow way of listening to the samples, can I preview a sample quickly before loading to a pad, Is there already set drumkits whereby I can load a preset set of sixteen sounds, rather than loading individually. I kinda just want to get a feel for playing first rather than getting bogged down in operation.

Yes, you did. It should be in the installation directory (/Applications/Native Instruments/Maschine on OS X) under "Documentation".

That seems like a tremendous waste of money to me.

It installed with the software. Here's a hardware quick reference guide made by a user that might come in handy. It's a year old and there's been a couple of software revisions so keep that in mind.
