Sample Issue

Sample Issue

I've downloaded loads of free samples, but when I try to use them, instead of giving the little building blocks to make a beat or whatever, all I get is a waveform at the bottom. Is there a way to get the format that comes up when using the standard samples?

You're definitely right about not understanding how Ableton works! Only got it yesterday!

It doesn't seem to work in arrangement view (for me anyway). When I try to place it it'll come up with a line rather than a block. Not sure how to explain it any better.

Drag a loop into a slot in the session grid, then right click on the clip in the slot, and select "Slice to new midi track". That will give you a drum rack on a new midi track, loaded with each hit from the loop.

Play away, or program your beats with the pencil.
I'll have a play around, see if I can get something to work like this. I wanted to create a succession of hits, obviously to make the start of a simple beat. I can do this easily with the samples that come with Ableton because at the bottom I can simply place them where I want
eg.

Putting them into Impulse seems to have done the trick. Working my way through that video, kinda following it as I go along. Will watch that second one after. Thanks fellas
