Recreating Paul Thomas Bassliines
Recreating Paul Thomas Bassliines Posted on: 14.10.2012 by Tina Sereal DJTT Producers,I'm fairly new to producing, and recently picked up Massive and Sylenth. I'm trying to recreate Paul Thomas' basslines that he uses in multiple songs, including "Morena". I've provided a link to the song so you get an idea of what I'm talking about. It has this deep sort of triplet rolling effect that is running in between the sidechain compression. Can anyone help me recreate this using either Massive or Sylenth? | |

Naoma Lexow 06.11.2012 | I just played around with only 1 osc in Massive, actually try AdditivmixIII osc and added some Filter stuff, etc. Here is a link with the preset that i made http://www61.zippyshare.com/v/8545876/file.html But! i strongly recommend, to try first recreating the sound on your own and after some hours, if you can't get the sound-use the preset |
Tina Sereal 24.10.2012 | Just got the opportunity to check both of them out. Both sound great, but the Massive one seems to sound a bit better and is closer to what I was looking for. How did you make it? |
Naoma Lexow 22.10.2012 | Yes, that's possible both are good for different reasons, i tried to recreate that bassline... I spent 2 minutes(!) on each, made a loop with the same kick and sidechain compression settings, no eq, just to see the difference(i didn't use the same osc waves, because massive offers much more variety, so i would say Massive ) Here are the results :P : (only if you login in your soundcloud account you will be able to listen to them) Sylenth1 : http://soundcloud.com/zaf_music/paul-thomas-bs-s1 Massive : http://soundcloud.com/zaf_music/paul-thomas-bs-ms ZAF |
Tina Sereal 21.10.2012 | I've actually heard about that a few times and I'll have to try it out. I did email Paul Thomas and this is what he told me regarding his bass lines, "I usually use the ESP in Logic for my basslines. Ultraviolet is an ESP b-line " And that was pretty much all he said. So if he's using a synth, shouldn't I be able to recreate it with either Sylenth or Massive? |
Naoma Lexow 21.10.2012 | Hey man, i believe that the sound of Paul Thomas is actually a Pitched Down, Eqed and Compressed Drum Sound-Perc or even Kickdrum maybe in Sampler and then in a Piano Roll, it's not coming from the Sylenth1 or Massive-maybe a little Sub frequencies are coming from a VST(i suggest for that reason-sub freq, that little plugin, http://www.robpapen.com/subboombass-demo.html) , but the real Bassline is a Drum Sound check that out http://youtu.be/J4AW9JxOoao?t=10m26s it's exactly! what i am trying to say here ;P Hope that helps, Cheers! |
