Anyone using this application to manage your collection?

I believe the idea and features it provides are awesome, but i'm still learning how to use it properly and what all it can do aside from creating smart playlists. I keep creating them and then I open up Traktor and they all don't pop up. I know I'm hitting save and can see them in my playlist folder in My documents - but they disappear. I have to create them 2-3 times before I get it right. I'm sure it's error on my part.

Looking for tips, tricks, likes and dislikes.

I was having problems getting things to update in traktor. I changed the collection.nml file in preferences to a different file, applied and then changed it back to the correct collection file and now things sem to be working better. Not sure if that was really the key thing or not.

I'm sure you will but make sure you let us know when the testing is done and we can download. Sounds like you'll have a lot of people lining up for it, me included!!!

24.12.2012		The playlists under the Track Collection are there to help you tag your collection or organise your playlists. They aren't saved as part of your collection.nml. You can reference them when you define dynamic playlists under "Playlists to include" or "Playlists to exclude", so you could have, say, "Playlists to include" set to /Track Collection/Genres/House and "File" "exists".

You can create playlist sets for the release dates playlists, when you save your collection the playlists are calculated and saved in your collection. If you then quit Trainspotter and open Traktor you should be able to see them.

23.12.2012		While I'm here, can anyone explain what is the difference between the playlists (and playlists sets) under the 'Track Collection' group, vs the ones I'm creating in the 'Playlists' group? Some of the Playlist Sets seem pretty useful (By Release Date for example) but how do I generate an actual (Traktor) playlist from them?

23.12.2012		I just started using TS2 today. Damn cool software! I've noticed a few issues though.

1) There are problems (at least on mac) with the '/' character being anywhere in the file path.

For example, I have my library organized like so:
'Traktor Music Folder'->'SoundCloud Folder'->'sc_10/12 Folder'->sometrack.mp3

2) I've fixed my file paths and run 'Consistency Check' in Traktor. After doing so, it fixed all of them except a few that I had tried to edit in TS2 before discovering the issue above. Traktor complains when re-analyzing the relocated tracks that the cover art image is too large. (I had previously tried to download cover art for one of the tracks in the screwed up path).

If anyone runs into #1 above, the fix is to quit TS and open Traktor. While Traktor is open, fix the file path (in my case, rename the folder). Then run consistency check and relocate the missing files.

This is something I really should get round to doing at some point, but for the time being have you looked/searched in the online help inside Trainspotter? If you've got any specific questions have a look on the support community or ask a question there.

06.12.2010		Not Not sure if this would work or not but it's worth a try. Make all of the fields visible in iTunes, then sort by those fields and see if the ones with the odd characters are easier to find once they're sorted.

06.12.2010		Ok my problem currently is the itunes exception error (chinese text somewhere in my collection). My collection is too big to find them manually and i dont want to add my entire database to track collection. Currently i have to use a 2nd monitor and drag/drop when searching for a tune from itunes. Is there any way Trainspotter could help with my problem either by finding the errant text or managing database issues. Really hate using another monitor and very frustrated that i can't use itunes within Traktor.

18.11.2010		I believe it's attempting to write the stripe information again. What really confuses me is why are some tracks in iTunes showing BPM information and some aren't. Right now i'm so fed up with Traktor constantly analyzing my library that i'd prefer to just avoid using Track collection altogether and just somehow use the iTunes section of Traktor. Is there anything I can get to easily write tags to iTunes.

18.11.2010		I'm so sick of Traktor and iTunes. Traktor keeps writing tags to tracks that it's already analyzed dozens of times. I used Trainspotter once, it worked great and made dynamic playlists. Then when I imported my iTunes section to load more tracks it started analyzing everything all over again. Someone HELP!

I highly recommend this when 2.0 comes out!!

Just add to your collection. That's it.

I normall add to my collection. Close traktor. Open trainspotter and make sure they are there, then reopen Traktor and they are there. That's just me "double checking" but really if they are in your collection the trainspotter rules should apply to those tracks now. No need to actually mess with the playlists.

I do so I can continue to use Itch and so that my Ipod tracks are sorted correctly. So you could start in step three.

Hey Haze one final question, I believe i'm finally getting the hang of this program. So lets say I have my Smart/Dynamic Playlists made up in Trainspotter. How are these playlists updated with new tracks that I tag in iTunes.

For example:

- I have a hip hop, old school smart playlist in iTunes.
- I create a dynamic playlist in Trainspotter and it shows up in Traktor
- I tag more tracks that get added to the smart playlist in iTunes

What do I do next? How will Trainspotter handle that.

10.11.2010		Are you talking about the Custom Tags you define? These should be written to the "Comment 2" field in Traktor. The other standard tags you edit should all appear in Traktor and in the tags in your files if you've got your preferences set up to do it.

I've been spreading the word on Trainspotter, even on the Serato community with the folks who jumped on the 299.00 TSP deal!!!!

I have question about the Tags. Is there any way to get them to display in the comments or in any column in Traktor?

Wys are the tags only visible within the Trainspotter application? Can I have the tags show in my comments or somewhere in Traktor? If not what's the main purpose of them to create playlist of a combination of tags?

Please explain how they are effectively used within the Traktor application.

Thanks. I'm really digging Trainspotter and continue to recommend it. I've had a few PM's. I believe it's great and really want to maximize it's use. So far the beta is kicking ass.

03.11.2010		Why can't Trainspotter write in the same place as Traktor does for Tags, which i'm guessing will eliminate the problem of writing tags with WAV files.

I don't want to re-encode my music to MP3/FLAC.

Has there been any contact with the Traktor team?

I suggest you start messing around with Trainspotter and you'll see what it does. Your songs right now in traktor are stored in Itunes. When you add them to your collection all your doing is creating a list or a document of what you have in Itunes. Currently Traktor does not provide you a way to fully manipulate that list. Trainspotter lets you alter that list. So whatever you do in in Itunes is on its own. Whatever you do in Trainspotter only effects that list. You will NO impact on Itunes by creating playlists in Trainspotter.
