Anyone tried using a USB to TTL cable?
Anyone tried using a USB to TTL cable? Posted on: 24.02.2009 by Latrice Atcherson I've heard good things on NI's community , but only one guy (hacking guru) tried it. One thing I'm wondering is the application y'all used to upgrade the firmware, would it support a USB port... Anyhoo, putting it out there! | |

Latrice Atcherson 08.03.2009 | This is the pre-end result... female part will be screwed in the back panel... don't have my drill in my dorm :S Second picture is the cable... it has the links between ground pins and vcc pins... this way when the cable is unhooked, it's not stuck in boot mode! Also have to glue the connections |
Latrice Atcherson 07.03.2009 | Well, of course if you're used to soldering, this is probably nothing to freak out about... But since I don't have several hundred hours of experience, still am nervous... did practice on another board before too And yes, this is straight USB, the serial converter is in the cable itself (a chip). |

Cristian Carmona 07.03.2009 | so you got it to work w/o the serial cable? |
Latrice Atcherson 06.03.2009 | Ok so I desoldered the cable, and it's all right now! Will have to look into soldering a switch to bypass the links that stuck the device in boot mode. NOW THE DAMN PARAM4 BUTTON WORKS, WOOT WOOT WOOT! mouahahahahha now the fun times come! |
Latrice Atcherson 06.03.2009 | Yeah, lol, dumbass me... forgot to remove the links between grounds and vcc pins... I desoldered the pins and now it lights up.. only one plate lights up though.. will have to check this out... |
Cristian Carmona 06.03.2009 | is it still stuck in bootmode? |

Latrice Atcherson 06.03.2009 | Going to try version 4.01 of the Renesas toolkit.... was using 4.02.. Cuz I can flash the device over and over again, so it's not dead... just stuck in bootload mode I'm guessing... |
Latrice Atcherson 06.03.2009 | Weird, VCI-100 doesn't light up when I tried to power it on... If the flash message confirmed it wrote the firmware... means the VCI-100 was connected and really wrote the firmware? Or it was just available to send the firmware to the cable? And also, I remember reading about a VCI-100 stuck in bootload mode... can't remember the thread, if anyone remembers, it'ld be great! :P |

Latrice Atcherson 06.03.2009 | Firmware writing... *heart pounding of joy... 1.3 coming up!* |
Latrice Atcherson 06.03.2009 | Last shout out before I try updating the firmware.... Did solder the cable to the pinouts, thank to simplysounds on NI's community ... pictures will come... OMG OMG OM GOM GOMG GOM... can I tell you I shaked like hell these damn pins are close to each others *banghead* Off to VMWare... |
Latrice Atcherson 05.03.2009 | Why all the talk about this "Chilly" person? :/ Nvm, guess it has to do with some innuendo? :P ... yeah, no pun-intended (right..) |

Latrice Atcherson 05.03.2009 | Well, based on the NI guy "simplysounds" ... I believe I'ld have to weld the wires to the header on the VCI-100... waiting for his response :S Guess I might have to order the upgrade kit after all! :P |
Cristian Carmona 05.03.2009 | ...wow buddy you left the door open on that one...I hope Chilly doesnt catch this post. |
Latrice Atcherson 05.03.2009 | Crap, damn female part is too large for the VCI-100's plug... *banghead* |
25.02.2009 | it seems we looked into this option and it was ruled out. Midifidler would be the expert on this subject though so I will leave it up to him. |
Latrice Atcherson 24.02.2009 | Exactly. Since it's out of stock and have no patience. Ean could even stock these babies and resell at 20-30$ a pop... |
Cristian Carmona 24.02.2009 | so what you are saying is that you can bypass the kit and just use the usb cable? |
