Any reason to get the VCI-100SE if I don't use Traktor?
Any reason to get the VCI-100SE if I don't use Traktor? Posted on: 17.10.2009 by Retha Estel Hello,I'm a DJ that will soon be making the leap to digital and I love what you guys are doing here! I've decided to get the vci-100 for a controller and hope to either do the arcade mod at some point or just get the Arcade Edition here. The thing is, I use Linux and hope to find that I am happy with the functionality of the open source software and don't have to buy Windows and Traktor. Is there any reason that I would be better off with the VCI-100SE over the regular VCI-100 if I'm using software other than Traktor? (Other than the cool black looks) Thanks, Photon | |

Leota Saniuk 21.10.2009 | He is talking about Wine and Crossover. But I dont believe you will be happy with them, plus Mixxx is shaping up to be a great app. Also do realize that the "free" Windows 7 beta is time limited until sometime next year. As for what 1.3 gives you even if you do not use Traktor: http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=1457 Its also discussed here: http://www.djranking s.com/midi-map/ @Ean/Bento: I believe this question should be more prominently answered somewhere |
Retha Estel 21.10.2009 | Thanks for the suggestions! I've already had a partition set aside for Windows 7 but didn't know I could get the beta for free. Looking into it... I knew that I could use some Windows programs in Ubuntu, but I guess I thought it would adversely affect latency and memory usage. I will for sure be giving it a shot though. Later |
Kittie Sluss 18.10.2009 | I used to use Ubuntu a long time ago, and ran a lot of windows programs. I forgot what to program was, but look it up, I am pretty sure theres ways to use windows programs on linux. I'll be on a search for the program. Also you can try the Windows 7 beta? Isnt that free? a lot better then vista? Edit: there is this (I've never seen it before) http://lifehacker.com/367714/run-win...y-inside-linux This is the one I used: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...UnderQemuHowTo They both work, and maybe might just be able to help you use traktor in Linux. |
Retha Estel 18.10.2009 | Thanks for the replys! I will indeed be using Mixxx. Hopefully it will keep me happy enough to stay a linux DJ. So what exactly does having the updated firmware do for me? What is meant by 'buggy buttons' ? Does the basic model act strangely with all software or just Traktor? Thanks again, Photon |
Leota Saniuk 18.10.2009 | Check out http://mixxx.org .. one if the first digital DJ solutions .. all open source and cross platform. Especially their next release will bring it closer to Traktor Pro in many areas, while surpassing Traktor Pro in many other areas: http://ifnotwhynot.me/mixxx-18-controllerism-galore To answer your original question, the main reason to get the SE/arcade edition is the upgraded firmware. Also you might prefer the looks and of course the arcade buttons as well. As for the overlay, there might be less use for you in that, though once 1.8 is out you could probably configure Mixxx to behave very similar. |
18.10.2009 | Hey Photo, there are some hardware benefits of the SE over the standard VCI-100's , check out the product page for a comparison diagram. |
