Did I make a mistake buying the VCI-100SE?
Did I make a mistake buying the VCI-100SE? Posted on: 04.11.2009 by Cathie Sochacki I just got delivery of my VCI-100SE and I've just started playing about with it.Unfortunately I'm a little disappointed, I believe I may have jumped the gun. I know the SE is a fantastic unit, but I'm believeing maybe I just should have got the standard VCI-100 instead. I had an M-Audio Torq Xponent before and this is quite a bit different. I had briefly used a standard VCI-100 and really liked it, it was quite familiar and worked great, but the small differences in the SE I believe might be wasted on me. Looking at the two overlays: http://www.djranking s.com/wp-conten...100_eg_ver.jpg http://www.telefonica.net/web2/compu...VCI100%202.jpg Using it there are a few things I don't like about it really. I'm just not sure if these are things I will just get used to or if really I should have got the normal vci-100 instead. Anyone in the same boat? Any advice for me? Right now if I could swap for a normal vci I would! Thanks | |

Cathie Sochacki 14.11.2009 | Hmm, I have Traktor Pro 1.2.1 and I tried the driver for 1.2 and it did not work at all, however 1.12 does work. Any ideas? |

Jacki Margritz 13.11.2009 | If you switch the play button to a play/pause, you would have to change the pause to a cue play then, or how were you believeing? |
Cathie Sochacki 13.11.2009 | Hi Ean, many thanks for the reply - very much appreciated. I have no doubt whatsoever that the DJTT mapping is better than the original - I suppose because its more advanced it scared me off a little at first. However, since I have now had it a while and have been playing with it, I'm definitely getting more comfortable with it and do like the way the effects etc work. I have not played about with Faxer FX or Juggle or multiple decks yet, but all in time. Because I came from the Xponent I'm used to one button being play/pause - just like on cdj's. Sometimes you do want to just pause the track where it is, but the Pause button on the SE bring the track back to the last cue point. So really its more "Cue" than it is "Pause". If I do want to just Pause the track, I don't believe you should have to drop a cue first really. Any comment on the way the Filter works? Personally I'm not a fan of the way it jumps to fully on and continued twisting lessons the effect, it should be the other way round really, or just permanently on and just the normal movement like it is on standard mixers etc would be fine. Ean any thought on when you might adjust the play/pause? I'll have a look at the mappings videos. I did take a look to try to change it but it seemed to be pretty complex probably cause of the 4 decks thing, but I might have a try later and see how it goes. |

Alyson Beltrani 09.11.2009 | The latest DJTT layout and mapping with the 1.3 firmware is the best yet. In my opinion a huge improvment over previous mappings. |
Xavier Emanuels 09.11.2009 | Id stick with the DJTT mapping, its ALOT better than the original mapping but it will take you some practice. Stick with it and in the long run you will be alot happier. If in the end you really don't want the DJTT overlay and would prefer the original, then you can just take off the overlay on your unit and underneath you will find the original mappings If there is any residue left on the unit that can be removed using products users recommend in this thread here: http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=1789 |

Cathie Sochacki 09.11.2009 | I live in Ireland and I'm using Traktor Pro Thanks |
Doug Bieling 09.11.2009 | What country are you in ? What version of Traktor are you using ? |
Cathie Sochacki 08.11.2009 | Cool, would anyone have their old plate they would be interested in giving to or selling me? Would be handy to be able to have both. Thanks for the pm - I have a few questions I'd appreciate help on: I've come from Torq and am used to come things which are different on the VCI - The play button, can you make it play/pause like on the Xponent or CD Decks etc? - The Pause button does not Pause, it goes back to the cue. Why? - Filter. Its acts weird, each direction from 12' O'clock does the full revloution, one each way. Can I have it just normal like an EQ knob? - Sometimes I put on a new track and press sync, it is out. What is the easiest way to adjust on the go? Can you do it on the controller or do you have to use the Move Grid Buttons in the software? - I sometimes hear cracks and pops, what do I do to fix this? - Is there no Master Volume or am I mistaken? On the original its at the top right but that is now 2/4 decks. - To the right of that is 'Juggle' - what does that do? Maybe its just a case of me getting used to it, I seem to be a bit more comfortable now than a few days ago. Are there tutorials I should be studying? Thanks! Colly |
Gwenda Legendre 04.11.2009 | Hey Colly. I just sent you a PM. |
Adolf Hit 04.11.2009 | You can definatley put the original plates on yours... Im sure plenty of us on this community
have ours left over from modding our VCI's TBH it does not take long to learn a mapping and once you have done that you dont need to look at the labels any way |
Doug Bieling 04.11.2009 | what are the things you downt like about it? |
Cathie Sochacki 04.11.2009 | Can I get the original overlays? Where? Thanks |
Winston Mazeika 04.11.2009 | Well, you can always just import the tsi that you can download from the Vestax VCI-100 page http://www.vestax.com/v/products/players/vci100_b.html. That will give you the functionality of a normal VCI, with the plus side of the 4th FX button working Although you may want to buy the original metal overlay plates, just so you know what buttons do what, but thats not really essential. |
