VCI-100 SE Jog Wheel MIDI Issue

Hi,

My VCI-100 (Firmware 1.3, arcade mod and overlay) right jog wheel is giving me problems.

When spinning it round, it keeps sending stop and start messages during the rotation. This has the effect of spin, then stop, spin then stop when attempting to cue in Traktor.

I have taken the unit apart and examined the jog wheel mechanism (The flat silver disc with micro perforations on the outer rim) and noticed that it's not flat. So when looking at it from the side when spinning, it looks like a warped record.

The small reader on the side of the disc looks like an optical device which reads the speed and direction of the disc when spinning. My guess is the bends in the disc are causing the reader to misinterpret the data as starting and stopping.

I have used contact cleaning fluid to clean the disc in the past and it's fixed things for a short while, but it always seems to screw up again after a while.

Any suggestions?

Hi all,

Just thought I'd update you on how I fixed this issue.

I had originally thought that I would need to replace the entire jog wheel part (The opto electronics and box), but after taking the unit apart and inspecting it, I managed to resolve the issue.

It seems as though the earthing pin (on the base of the inside of the jog wheel box) which pushes against the rod which runs through the jog wheel wasn't making good contact.

I cleaned it with contact switch cleaning solution and bent it more so that it applied more pressure to the rod.

It's now outputting MIDI as expected.

Great to be able to use the jog wheel again.

I hope this helps any people having a similar issue.

If anyone wants any help or clarification with this issue, I'd be happy to help.

Hello DJTT gang.

Does anyone have any info about how I could mend / replace what seems to be a slightly warped jog wheel optical disc (The part inside the unit itself)?

i have noticed that just like you . . .
So i believe that some parts of VcI could be build up from more quality parts...
I was believeing to recreate these discs from more quality metal which will not bend from gravity
i will post here some pics when i finish that
