VCI filter knob under 1.3 firmware?
Posted on: 22.04.2010 by Randal Biza
I'm just wondering why the 1.3 firmware turns the filter knob into a double knob, where middle to far right is 0-127 and middle to far left is 0-127. Before upgrading, I assumed moving the knob to the far left or right would turn off the filter, because the overlay says "cut". But obviously that is not a feature and not possible I believe without Bomes. I feel like there is some added functionality to this filter knob that I'm missing.

Hey BuckyDonePun. I saw that thread too. I haven't tried messing around with the shift+filter. I believe Bento said that was a bug, but it sounds like it could be a cool bug. I'm just wondering what the rationale was behind changing the midi for the filter knob in FW 1.3.

So you're moving to Austin hey? Good choice of cities! It's an awesome place. Great evening life. I suggest moving as close to downtown as possible. At any rate, we should grab a beer sometime after you move here. I believe we may have emailed back and forth a bit over a Midifighter?

It does what? I know for sure it's a double knob from using Midi Monitor, but it definitely does not turn off the filter when the knob is turn to the extreme left or right. Sorry, I'm not sure what you're saying it does.

I'm sorry. I thought the center detente on the VCI filter knob (the point where it kind of clicks when it's at 12 o-clock) sent its own midi signal, and that signal was assigned to turn the filter off. I guess not in FW 1.2?

The cut on the filter is in centre. Just look at the on screen filter knob, the little "on" button turns off when the knob is in the middle. At either end, the filter is on full whack.

Sorry!! I misread you said 'why' i thought you said 'if'

It does it so that you can have a highpass and low pass on one knob withit turning off in the middle. If it wasnt like this then you would get, like you say, the filter turning off at far right or left which means you would have an extreme high or low pass with just a slight move of the knob. The way it works in the 1.3 tsi makes it better to use for its functionality.

Does it really say cut on the filter? I thought ity was just the low eq that said cut? Maybe wrong though.
