Took VCI apart - Now some buttons don't work
Posted on: 06.05.2010 by Julissa Serrone
I took my VCI apart to replace my overlay. Took the whole thing apart, and was careful putting it back together. This was last week, have had no issues till today, and I haven't moved it either.

Today they the cue/pre-listen buttons are non-responsive and so are the two buttons below it that activate decks C and D. All other buttons work fine. I clicked on the headphone icon on the traktor and the lights change colors on the VCI so there is some communication, but nothing at the buttons.

Not sure where to start troubleshooting. I tried a new cable and no luck.

Any suggestions. This kinda sucks!

Elmers glue, Just a SMALL dot where the old glue was. Or you could use a hot glue gun, which is what it looks like they used in the factory. Mine's just taped though.

I'm happy for you too that it is so simple and that everything is OK.

Just any old piece of thin cardboard will do. In the DIY Arcade video, Ean just tapes it back on (which is what I did too).

The purpose of the paper is just to stop the electronics from touching the case.

yep that was it.

Took it apart, wiggled a few things around and everything works. Gotta find some paper and a way to glue it on there. Wonder how that works, and why its needed?? Pretty interesting - either way, im glad it wasnt anything serious. I really thought I had F'd things up.

man, could be be the paper. The glue came off and I don't believe I put back on for fear it would just slide around in there and disconnect something. I remember reading a post about that afterwords and was glad it was still working.

Any suggestions on what kinda paper should go on there, and what glue to use to put back on. Gonna take the back plate off now and see if I get a response with the VCI open.

Thanks for the post.

Zach posted that this can occur if you did not put the paper back on properly (or it moved) on the PCB that is very close to the bottom plate. Maybe start by checking that, or the screw that holds that PCB on, as the screw is also the ground for the PCB.

Failing that, just make sure all the connectors are snug in their fittings (there are a lot of them!).

Let us know if you find anything.

Phil.

Buttons only change colors when I click on the icons within traktor. If I press the buttons on the VCI no change in color and nothing in Traktor happens.

tried to reload the .tsi no luck. Also tried to just add a command myself with the learn function. Press the buttons and nothing from all four buttons.. Gonna open the VCI and see if something came loose -- just not sure what Im looking for. I have a VCI w/ 1.3 fm. Thanks for the diagram.

so the vci buttons light up, but inside traktor nothing changes? try to reload your tsi or search in the mapping if the comand still exists

below the firmware 1.3 midi notes of the vci..
