Planning on buying a VCI-100se
Planning on buying a VCI-100se Posted on: 23.08.2010 by James Stimeling So I was looking at controllers recently and I stumbled upon the VCI-100se and I've decided that it was perhaps the best option for me as a beginner in the DJing art.Although, before making my purchase,I have a few questions regarding the VCI-100se which are the following : -Can I just plug the VCI-100se to my laptop, load up Traktor and get going ? -What is the best version of Traktor to use in conjunction with the VCI-100se ( I currently have Traktor Scratch Pro 3) ? -What is included with the VCI-100se ? -Why do people buy the Audio4DJ or Audio2DJ soundcards and if I require them, what is the best option for me if I'm planning to play at some parties and stuff ? Thank you in advance. | |

Dee Atondo 08.09.2010 | Uses a presonus firebox as a soundcard and love it--frees up my USB ports |

If you want a controller with a built-in soundcard then have a look at the vci300. I owned one for about 6 months - mapped it to traktor myself and it was really good. The built-in soundcard is fine for home / small parties / bars. |
Fleta Fergusen 01.09.2010 | so wait, your saying i wont be able to monitor what im about to play over the PA in my headphones without getting a soundcard? i have to spend another 200-400 bucks on another piece of hardware in order to monitor and cue the next song?? the VCI-100se doesnt have this feature?? |
Jessika Kienast 24.08.2010 | What photojojo said. Don't make the mistake of believeing that the VCI-100's a toy. I've been having that idea for the past few years which explained why it took me so long to get one and I happen to be a fulltime DJ. Best you check your version of Traktor Scratch Pro again. Unless you're working in or are real tight with Native Instruments, I don't believe it's version 3 since the more paranoid amongst us (of which I'm one) are only at 1.2.6.. Anyway, the VCI-100 works fine with Traktor. And yes, you can just plug in and get going. Takes a few seconds to boot up and then you're ready to go. Nothing to set. I even turn mine off when another DJ's playing and when it's my turn, I turn it on again, wait for a few seconds, take a few swigs of beer and I'm all ready to go. The VCI-100 comes with a USB cable, manual, free copy of Traktor LE, plastic bag, some cardboard to make sure it doesn't move about during transporting and a cardboard box plus a bit of dust from Japan or wherever it was last opened. Hope I've gotten everything there. And to add on to what photojojo had said about the Native Instruments' soundcards (beats me why people call them cards when they're in reality, boxes) they really do sound good. If the audio's weird, it's usually your source (ie. mp3, wma, wav, etc.) latency settings, operating system or hardware fault. On paper, they have specifications which beat quite a lot of the USB stuff offered by the big names in studio quality gear BUT feel free to go for any of the more popular USB alternatives. Bear in mind USB 2.0 though. Good luck! |
Leeanna Ayla 23.08.2010 | Welcome to the community s. The VCI-100 SE is a great choice for a beginner or a pro. The current Version of Traktor Pro is 1.2.6 and I would recommend that. You will need a sound card if you want to be able to cue or hear the next track your going to play in your headphones without the crowd hearing it. If your not going to hook up any external decks or anything like that the Audio 2 will work. If your do plan on adding gear you will need something like the Audio 4 or Audio 8. The Native instruments sound cards are some of the best sounding cards out there and the Audio 2 despite it's size packs the same punch as the 4 or 8. |
