Advice on set up VCI-100 + Timecode!!
Posted on: 19.04.2010 by Eneida Mussa
I was wondering if anyone can confirm my thoughts on the setup I want to achieve. At present I have a VCI-100 f/w1.3 and using TT 3.5 mapping with Traktor Scratch Pro 1.2.4 and Maya 44 USB and everything is working fine. However what I want to acheive is the use of timecode vinyl so I can scratch and play normal vinyl.

Therefore this is what I am believeing:
I will buy NI Audio 4 DJ soundcard so I can use the timecode vinyls with Traktor. I will use the multicore cables to connect to souncard and an external mixer for the normal vinyl inputs and master input from soundcard. My main question is will my VCI-100 be able to be used with the timecode vinyls for scratching and also could I then be able to use 4 decks (2 jogs and 2 timecode)?

I really like the VCI-100 as a controller and have upgraded the crossfader to the Pro X Fade but would like the vinyl feel for scratching (can't get on with the jogs)

Any help or confirmation that this will work will be appreciated before I go and buy and try myself.

im looking to do this setup too.... tsp and the audio 8dj soundcard should arrive today. can i still use djtts latest mapping for the vci-100 and get all the functionality from the vci?

also does having the audio 8 over the audio 4 have any advatages?

thanks for your assistance!

Does this allow you to still use the Traktor effects with your VCI? Does the midi functionality interfere with your timecode?

I'm asking because if I choose to mix externally with timecode and not internally, I wanted to know if I could still hook up my Midifighter and another controller to control effects...

Wongnasty, I have the same set up. I'm doing this from memory as not by my lappy at the moment.

Firstly connect your turnatbles directly into the inputs on your Audio 4. Then connect your output to the A out.

Then in the traktor settings you need to set:
Audio settings: Audio 4DJ, 44100Hz, Latency - best you can get (mine is 1ms)
Output routing: Output chA - Master L & R for chA (this is your master out), Output chB - Monitor L & R for chB (so you can plug headphones in to audio 4dj and then monitor using vci)
Input routing: Input chA - In A L & R, Input B L & R (should not need to change)
Timecode setup: if you want timecode on decks A & B its already set up. If you want them on C & D, you have to change the first 2 decks as you only have the audio 4dj. Test your timecode signal
Layout manager: deck details - ad the scratch panels.

Now when you want to use your timecode, you will need to click on the deck you want's big letter on the main screen (active deck is highlighted orange). Drop down menu - click scratch control. Start your timecode and click RST to calibrate (only need to do this the once at the beginning of your session - check blog for timecode calibration). Then, by the play button there are 2 little turntables (left is relative mode, right is absolute mode) I have found it works best with relative, as I scratch it means that if needle jumps it won't lose position.

That should get you started anyway

Mongala... You're set up with a VCI 100, 2 TT, and the Audio 4?

sorry, I'm new to digital djing.... could you please explain this set-up?

thanks!

you guys are WRONG!!!!! Yes you can use your VCI 100 to control the internal mixer in Traktor with your VCI as the mixer between the turntables.

This is my exact setup, Two TT's and a VCI 100 with timecode mixing internally with just a VCI and using it to control effects and looping and everything else as well.

Thanks Dubba. I will try this out once I have the Audio4. At least it can be done and you sound like you have the minimum set up I would like (being a scratch dj). Cheers

Just have a play with the vci as your mixer and leave out the external mixer. Now and then I like to jus have one 1210 next to my vci. You leave out the multi core cable's and plug your turntable directly in to the audio 4/8. Set your routing to internal and then I've got a map to my nano pad that will tell traktor which deck I want to control with timecode. On my nano pad I have 8 hotcues, timecode on/off, internal play/pause and because these controls are dictated by focus the remaining button on my nano pad controls focus select. With this I obviously can't have proper timecode control over all four decks at the same time, but as a scratch dj I've found it soooo much fun trying to use the vci as a battle mixer, as with set up I can scratch any of traktors decks at a touch of a button and reamain on my preffered hand for scratching. Sort of turns my turntable in to a quad layered otus.

Thanks for the advice, shame you can't do that because it would be good for a quick scratch change over and not have the additional peice of kit between the decks. Just have to practise on them jogs then...

Noop, its either internal mixing or DVS. Need and external mixer, but you could use your VCI for midi stuff still.

Yeah, I am interested in an answer to this too. I was under the impression that you could only DVS with external mixing. I'll look it up in the Traktor Bible when I get home (sitting at the car dealership waiting for service...).

Phil.
