Vci 100 v 1.4 firmware flash not successful

I have previously flashed a few vci 100's successfully with a usb type serial cable.. I am running an hp notebook with windows xp ...i recently picked up a new used vci 100 intending to upgrade to firmware 1.4.. Been having problems so i purchased a non usb serial port cable 15 pin male to 9 pin male cable.. I have followed the instruction video very carefully and am getting a 15024 message.. I reinstalled the latest renesas program and firmware file.. Used my new cable and the djtt adapter..the unit lights up with the usb cable i am using so i presume that is not the problem... I cannot get it to work.. Please help!!!! Iv recently invested a new / used vci, cable,overlay and knobs to make this work. I must make this work .. Please help!
