Help! Sennheiser HD25 vs Sennheiser HD280 vs Beats Mixr. Which one's the best to buy? Posted on: 04.01.2013 by Rashida Stoutenburgh My pair of Sony MDR 700 broke and I'm looking to buy a new pair of headphones. I've heard the beats are not as good as they look, but recently I saw a review here on djtt saying they were pretty good... I've heard many Djs use the hd25, but I've also heard the hd280 fit better and give a clearer sound. So the big question is, which pair should I buy? What do you believe of these? Or is there any other pair of headphones you'd recommend? Thanks for the help | |

Hilda Scheuerman 10.01.2013 | Hey guys, I have both the HD-280s and the HD‑25iII's and use them regularly. I've also spent some time with the HD-380s and have listened to the entire Beats lineup. All of this is subjective and everyone has a different opinion so you can't really trust anyone's words completely; you've gotta go check 'em all out. Here are my personal opinions, however: HD-280s: Awesome value. Great sound for the price. Nice flat, clear sound. Nothing over-boosted. Comfortable for long periods of time. Great isolation. These are my every-day headphones I use when I listen to music at work or for fun. They are a but bulky and look ridiculous on the head, but I don't care about that. I've been a huge fan of them for many years and have given them as gifts to others many times over. Everyone has always unanimously loved them. HD-25iII's: These are what I DJ with. Fantastic. A bit more pronounced mid-range than the 280s and a bit less deep bass. A more punchy bass which is actually really good for beat-matching. Very clear. Very light and maneuverable while DJing. Amazingly, even a slight bit MORE isolation than 280s, though it doesn't make sense why that would be. Love the cord and angled 1/8" end. Perhaps not as comfortable as 280s for long periods of time, but I haven't had them on for long stretches (I take them on and off while I spin). THE DJ headphone, imo. They look good on your head too. (Much better than 280s, imo) A classic. Note: stay away from HD-25spII. These are NOT the same headphone at all. HD-380s: I expected these to sound WAY better than the 280s and be a big step up. Their form factor is better, and the case is nice, but the sound is WORSE. The bass is over-boosted in my opinion, and the treble is over boosted as well. The mids are not prominent at all. They seem to have less isolation than the 280s. Their "u-shaped" sound is something I don't care for at all. Beats: I've listed to all of the line. While many are really comfy on the head, they all sound bad. The Mixr is the best of the bunch, but still not worth even half the price. Stay away. Just hype. Again, I use both the 280s and the 25s all the time and wouldn't have it any other way. But you've got to make your own decision. I initially bought some Allen and Heath Xone XD-53's because so many people in community s and reviews said their isolation was superb. Rubbish. They didn't isolate for crap. They didn't sound great, to me, either. So its all very subjective. I hope this helps a bit! Andrei |

Alphonso Deitchman 09.01.2013 | I've tried the Mixrs out in store and they still have somewhat muddy bass, possibly not as bad as the rest of the Beats range. I also found them quite uncomfortable as they clamp much harder than my 25s and have pads that don't fit either on or around my ears properly. |
Lang Abriel 09.01.2013 | Has anyone even tried the new mixr's? They are actually really good and really flat (well optimized for mixing). Kicks are tight and snares stand out....I'm sure ppl will hate on me for this but they are actually really really good I believe you will see alot of dj's switching, not because they are "cool" but because in my opinion, they are easier to mix on than any other headphone...especially in bad environments or when volumes get high and start to distort. edit: Just read someone did do a side by side...I own the hd-25's, good headphones, mine are starting to get a slight crackle in the left headphone but it could be from debris. I would use the mixr's any day though, especially over half the shit dj headphones out there. |

Jeffrey Akinsanya 09.01.2013 | i used to own some hd25 untill they got nicked they were my pride and joy.. one less thing to worry about! ive never tired the beats MIXr but ive had a go on my sisters solo's and if there any thing to go by there POO. my HD 205's are 10 x better all this beats stuff is style over substance |

Petra Spale 07.01.2013 | hd-280's, bought a pair 7 years ago with my first mixer and cdj's. still going strong. such great isolation. been tossedi n som many backpacks and gear bags and have only had to replace the 1/4" connector on them. love the fact that even though i have my earlobes stretched out to around 1" plug that they still fit over my ears and plugs. they've been gigged pretty hard and absolutely no complaints. they will be replaced wit hteh HD 380's soon though! |

Alphonso Deitchman 06.01.2013 | For me, the HD 25s only hurt if I leave my glasses arms too low (pressing between ear and head). They're extremely light so I use them for pretty much everything - they were originally designed as a studio monitor so they should do well there. Judging from the reviews, the HD25 will likely last a while longer than the HD280 due to the better build quality/design. |

Mimi Mahaffee 05.01.2013 | they are tight, but when i play i dont get bothered by that cuz i have them off probably 50% of each song, letting my ears rest agreed that you will feel pain if u wear them over 2h without taking them off a single time. |

I wouldn't even let the dre marketed tripe into the equation. |

Precious Pequignot 04.01.2013 | I've gotta audition myself a pair of hd25s one day. Just curious, wont it get uncomfortable after awhile? Being on ur ears instead of closed covering? |
Matt Kane 05.01.2013 | hd 25 mkII! don |
Margaretta Hebenstreit 04.01.2013 | Pretty much verybody is gonna tell you to get the hd25 here, and that has its reasons. I use them myself and am very happy. Their sound is good and clear, no frequencies are boosted, and their durability is just crazy. But go test out some others aswell. Go to a store and try on different ones, because in the end you are gonna have them on for hours and they should fit you perfectly. Hearing good stuff about something is always different from trying it out yourself. |
Sandy Zosa 04.01.2013 | HD 25 mk2 have lasted me 2 years of rigorous use. I've sat on them, stood on them, fallen asleep with them on and they're still going strong and sounding great. |
