Novation Twitch, Traktor 2.5 touch strip mapping for effects...

Hi DJTT,

I am trying to map the touch strips on my Novation Twitch to control grouped effects in Traktor 2.5, the same way that Ean Golden appeared to be using the jog wheels on a Traktor Kontrol S2 in an old video performance which i saw on NI's website.

I have managed to map the touch strips to do this but not the way that i want.

1 - They will not respond to a sliding motion, they will only respond to individual touches at different points along the strip, relating directly to a value on each of the three effects in the chain. This means that if i want to change a parameter, i need to take a new sample from another point later in the track, rather than using the same point.

2 - Another issue that i have is that all three effect parameters in the group can only change together at the same value, where i would rather they could change at a different rate aka different values at the same point along the touch strip for each of the three parameter knobs.

This is how i have mapped a single touch strip to control all three parameters;

add in > fx unit 1 > button 1 > controller type: button, interaction mode: hold.
add in > fx unit 1 > knob 1 > controller type: fader/knob, interaction mode: direct.

And i have repeated this process another two times for button 2 & 3 and knob 2 & 3 on the same touch strip.

I attempted to use the "relative" interaction types and i also tried mapping the touch strip as an "encoder" controller type, but these options only seem to confuse Traktor or i don't understand how these options function.

Thanks for reading any help will be very much appreciated!!

Thanks for the pointers mate, everything you have told me has worked perfectly. I also just wanted to point out how incredibly useful the articles are in the DJTT blog, so many thanks to Ean Golden and DJTT from me for providing such clear and concise information about everything Traktor!

Take a look at my mapping, it has that function.. if you don't know about modifiers, search for the article on DJTT's blog.. and read on mapping in TP because modifiers are basics..

Another question... how do i map one of the buttons on the controller so that it can act as an "fx mode" button? In other words so that the touch strip effects will only work when this button is activated, and so that i can maintain the swipe transport functions of the touch strip.

Also, what are modifiers?

Thanks.

Thanks for the help, worked perfectly mapping wise. Unfortunately the touch strips don't feel nearly as good as a jog wheel might when used in this fashion, so i believe my previous mapping sounded better in action.

Cheers!

How are you assigning the control? The touchstrip sends two codes, one when touched (CC052 - fader/encoder) and another when you take your finger off (button).

So to assign the touchstrips properly, you need to click learn, touch the touchstrip (the CC code will appear), then with the mouse click learn again to keep that CC code. Then you release..
