Anyone know how to make LED's light up at start up with an Allen & Heath K2?
Posted on: 30.04.2013 by MadMan Ajms
I am making a midi map for my K2 with Traktor and would like to have my monitor cues and play/ pause buttons light up in red on off position and when activated in green. I know about how to make leds work, but cannot find a way to make it work like this. I prefer not to use up modifier buttons..

Any help greatly appreciated

Maybe, could it have to do with the Controller Range?

Yeah I can only guess too... But if sending monitor does it go for it!

IIRC only for the Pitch Bend (just like on the X1). However, I'm going to delete this because it doesn't work (only for X1 I believe). So no blend on, just being stuck to Send Monitor State I guess...

I don't believe so.. More likely it could got to do with blend. You got blend on?

It basically refresh monitor for controller output.

Xone K2 isn't unfortunately, so I solved it with the Send Monitor State. Don't know what else to do... Send Monitor State for Output isn't doing anything, right?

I had the same problem when I tried to make this happen. Light won't refresh red on stop until I use send monitor state...not sure why. To be completely frank and honest, I can't imagine why you'd want the light to be red instead of just off. The more lights I have to look at, the more my brain has to process. I like to be able to look at my controller and know that only what lights are ON are playing. When numerous lights are on or flashing on my controller, I feel like I'm more likely to get confused. To each his own though.

Ok, I tried removing the Send Monitor State command from my SHIFT modifier. However, my LEDs won't update after I release the SHIFT modifier! The Play button (unlit when track is not playing, green when track is playing) stays red (Key Lock On/Off) and my SHIFT modifier is blinking with the beat of Deck B/D.

I've made a video off of it to show that what you're saying is not working, or I'm doing it wrong. I forgot, when I press my SHIFT modifier, the LED of that button is red when pressed.

EDIT: Solved the Beat Phase problem. Don't know how, but the command was messed up and mapped to the modifier... That's all good now. Still the refresh of the LEDs to worry about. They only update as I use the Send Monitor State command.

In case of shift button I never use send monitor command in my mappings and simply follow modifier conditions for both LED state.

M=0 > dimmed
M=1 > key on (red)

From my experience, setting corresponding modifier conditions for both 'IN' and 'OUT' commands should do the trick.

Well, I believe that the purpose of Send Monitor State isn't clear enough for me, then. I use Send Monitor State as an input for the SHIFT modifier because I want the LEDs of button 1-16 to be updated. For instance, when a track is not playing that LED (when plays it's green) stays dimmed. But if I use SHIFT, I can utilize Key On/Off (Key On, led is red) with the same button. But when Key On, and I release the SHIFT modifier, the LED stays red instead of dimmed.

Maybe you can help me out with this?

Yep, for your shift modifier. I've just looked into your A/B tsi and have noticed the send monitor state command mapped for same button as shift modifier. Is there some specific reason why you're using that instead of corresponding output command for that modifier? That could be your fix, though I honestly didn't mess with K2 before to give you better opinion.

For the modifier you mean? MIDI note is D#0 (Eb0), and the output for the color red is the same, G0 for amber and B0 for green.

Hey JDFS,

What's the midi note for that button?

Maybe someone can help me? I've mapped the EXIT SETUP button (bottom right corner) as a modifier (namely as SHIFT button) with LED feedback and it also acts as a Send Monitor State. But when Deck B and Deck D are playing, and I press the modifier button, the button keeps blinking, like the Beat Phase button? What's wrong here... Here's my mapping: https://maps.djranking s.com/mappings/1500 for A/B and https://maps.djranking s.com/mappings/1501 for C/D. Both mapping give the same problem, on Deck B and Deck D.

You should of zip them before uploading. Sometimes that can be the reason for format being messed.

That's weird, I've uploaded them as .TSI - change the extension .xml to .tsi, should fix it.

Hi JDFS,

I just noticed your upload is an xml file.. Is this normal..? I thought it should be a .tsi..

No thanks. Just let me know how it's working out for you! I've encountered a bug when Deck B and D are playing; the SHIFT (Modifier 8) button keeps blinking when pressed too, that's not what I've mapped.

But I haven't experienced that before, so weird...

Hello Claudek,

I've managed to upload my K2 mappings. Here for A and B: https://maps.djranking s.com/mappings/1500 and here for C and D: https://maps.djranking s.com/mappings/1501

I have tried this map idea as well and for all my luck I cannot see where you mapped the green led? I get the red of course to toggle, but only toggles red and off (blank)..no green. I am on midi channel 15, if it changes things at all.

Cheers

Could you upload it for me..? Would love to learn from it.

Doesn't seem to help. I believe the layer latching is off because it is default. I never switched them.
I have different colors, just cannot have both for an off and an on state ..
I have tried messing with the min/max fields from 0-1 and 1-1 but once I switch the button on it does not change from red to green and back. Any ideas..

Hey mate, try this. Look into modifier conditions and find 'deck play'. Now for your red color set OFF and for green select ON. Curious

Thanks !! I thought there must be a way. I need to try this out..I have just got this thing the other day..So I need to disable to latching layers? I have tried this min and max, but not quite understanding.
I have for example had min 1 max 127 for red..but for max (green) on another add output I put min 1 max 127. It shows red at first, but once I click on it is turns to green and off nothing.

You have to disable latching layers which is explained in the manual, then map the individual red and green midi notes as you want (see midi return portion of manual)

The way I have my K2 set up is that when a deck is playing, my cue button flashes red to the beat (Map out beatphase and change range to 0-0.5) and when that deck is in an active loop it flashes green to the beat. When the deck is not playing the light is off. You may or may not like that idea, but it's just another consideration.

All the color velocity values are listed in your K2 manual. In order to set multicolor LED's in single layer you'll need to disable layering for your K2...

Go ahead and add output commands for your buttons and look under LED options where you can find MIDI range min and max slots. The 'min' represent the state off for button (enter MIDI note for red here) and for 'max' which is button active just pick MIDI note for green.

Hope that helps.
