^This is definitely a possibility. With how much they avoid publicity and such I can definitely see them releasing new music under a different brand.

I believe no matter what the duo are still probably working on some crazy stuff, but I doubt it is going sound very similar to their old stuff. Which is good IMO because if it did what would be the point? It was the creativity and composition which made their music awesome and if they just run off the same vein it won't have the same value. Plus, my impression of their personalities is that they don't really care and just want to push the envelope.

As for all the "french house sold out" BS, there's a reason music changes. Nostalgia is great and all but don't you ever want to listen to something new? Most producers do and that's why they produce. Whether they sell out or not, you'd get sick of making the same pulsing bassline after a year or two too. I liked Feed Me's throwback to that style on his last EP, but he still pushed it in a different direction. I wouldn't say he "sold out"; he just made a track he thought sounded good. If all you want is an old school french house vibe, I'm sure there are thousands of novice producers trying to sound just like Daft Punk, but the talented producers have moved on because they wanted to do something else.

I have seen rumors on rumors about Daft Punk's return and I hope this one has merit. I'll restrain my pessimism because it doesn't have much point, but I doubt its going to go down like a normal album/tour announcement.

Yes. Those dudes ain't making "French House" anymore.

It's very difficult to find true "French House" . Not house that is from French producers, but "French House" like this:

Extremely jealous. Me being a poor college student getting my masters then didn't allow me to find a way to go to one. This time if they ever play anywhere remotely close I'm getting a ticket and going no matter what.

First saw Daft Punk live at Tribal Gathering 1996, in the very early stages of their career (as Daft Punk), before Homework came out - which I still believe is their best album. The Essential Mixes they did around then are also superb along with the couple of Essential Selection mixes, really good sets. I'm definitely interested to see what they come up with, but I'm not expecting great things tbh - I hope to be wrong of course.

Ref French House producers, tend to agree, just look what Guetta/Bob Sinclar went on to do, awful euro/EDM stuff, not my cup of tea at all! However the stuff released in the mid-late 90s on Roule, Crydamoure, Kitsune, Yellow, Vulture, Superdiscount etc etc, was great, although as with all new popular genres, it became saturated with a load of rubbish.

^ yeah no I agree; but i believe that as stand alone producers France produces some of the best producers and artists.

I guess i'll say it again, read into the sources of these rumours. cause most of them are not credible enough to be proven truth.

while I have no doubt they are working on new material, the specifics on when and who they are releasing it with are not guaranteed according to the information given at this point.

you have to also remember that its pretty well known for blog sites to write up a convincing Daft Punk rumor to drive traffic to their website. It's been done numerous times and will continue to be so. "heard it from a friend who overheard a member of DP tell his friends at a party" is not a credible source.

I remember being a wee lad and getting my mum to buy me Discovery because I saw the video's for One More Time and Aerodynamic and I was like "Oh my god anime and.. funk dance? Guitar solos?".

Needless to say she bought the CD the next day and I came home from school, and immediately ran to my room to put it on. I have never felt so much for an album since. Nostalgia's a hell of a drug! Hur hur hurr

Well I hope it's true because they are one of my favorite artist. I could only hope and wish they they flip the EDM scene upside down. I don't expect them to come out with anything that will "fit in" just as they did then.

Still love watching this video.

Should be good.

The first time I heard Da Funk my jaw dropped - there was nothing like it at the time.

Laurent Garnier played it on an Essential Mix in 95 - one of the best ever:

This album is bound to be superb. Apparently they've been working with Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder and Feist for this. Cant wait as Tron was a bit disappointing for me.

I don't understand where this spring 2013 shit is coming from. They signed to a new label, that's it. I don't see how that confirms a spring release on an unannounced album.

secondly, have you read the source to this rumor that exploded on the internet today?

According to second largest regional newspaper in France, Le Parisien, Daft Punk have found a new home on Sony subsidiary, Columbia, leaving EMI for their upcoming fourth studio album. The information was reportedly told by Guy-Manuel to his friends at a Kavinsky album release party last week.
That's like saying oh my aunt is friends with someone who works at Cupertino, and she said she heard Tim Cook say Apple changed component suppliers for their screen in the iphone manufacturing. That's pretty much all the information I need to confirm Apple will release the next iPhone in Spring

So they found 20 tracks of dead black funk artists in the 10cent bin and put a beat over it?

If anyone believes that Daft Punk isn't going to come out with the most insane combination of HIGH end tracks and unmatched live shows (just like they did 'back in the day') is out of their minds. I'm so stoked on this album and will finally get a chance to fulfill a life long dream of seeing them perform live.

Daft Punk has become so hyped at this point its insane. This album has to blow everything out of the water.

And honestly, they better have some really sick beats in there. At least a couple songs. Not some weird down tempo shit...

it will be interesting but some reason I'm just not that excited about this. I mean they were some of the first electronic music I got into and I appreciate it but it's so worn out and I just haven't been excited listening to anything daft punk in a long time, and also the fanboys and circlejerking around them can be a bit much.

I just can't see how this is going to live up to the hype.

I would have loved to see them in this form though:
