Traktor S4 moding... Possible?
Traktor S4 moding... Possible? Posted on: 12.12.2010 by Matthew Yanagisawa Can the S4 get arcade buttons? Here you can get Sanwa buttons lower that 24mm which are used for the VCI100 arcade.http://www.lizardlick.com/Sanwa-Pushbuttons_c_152.html Can the faders and knobs be replaced with the ones sold on the DJTT store? I grew to love my green knobs | |

With just a post like this it is clear that there are S4 users interested in modding their unit and with the right amount of people willing to shed the cash/void warranty for a mod, modders will come and be able to cash in the process, even more if it require some sort of special parts not found anywhere or difficult to find or put together (believe FW kit). BTW, nothing wrong if modders want to charge for their efforts, quite the opposite I would be glad someone butchered their own S4 to make some ass kicking mod and that with a few bucks I can make the same mod painlessly. If anything, Im also pretty sure the first S4 mods will be born in this website and that those will keep the S4 interesting and fresh just like it happened to the VCI-100. |

Francina Decosse 07.02.2011 | a MF on the side is you best (and only) bet! no mod possible with S4 ... |
Matthew Yanagisawa 07.02.2011 | If depth is the problem... hmmm... perhaps a rubber border and longer screws would add the necessary depth to install arcade buttons?? Like a piece of rubber that functions as a spacer between both front and back cover... Maybe even a clear rubber spacer, border similar to the midifighter and add lights inside? I can even go further and maybe a custom made back cover to add a custom made midifighter to the side of the S4 like the Sega CD used to be... It's 4:20 here in the Caribbean and my ideas fly a bit too high lol... |
Maxima Lobeck 07.02.2011 | I would love to see that pics, and please, do pics of how the soundcard is assambled in there, i want to see if its removable. Thanks. |

Its crammed in there and most stuff is unmovable. I dont believe you could move the boards about. Its not like the VCI where the boards are attached with long cables. (dunno the tech speak) |
Leeanna Ayla 06.02.2011 | One thing that might be possible is that you could maybe lower the logic boards. That's providing that there's not multiple levels of boards in there, I believe it's very likely there are at least two boards stacked on top of each other in there though. |
Francina Decosse 06.02.2011 | yup, Remote is correct in reading what I wrote. It's a depth issue above all. It's about the spacing between the top plate and logic board, which holds the rubber buttons. |

Francina Decosse 04.02.2011 | Probably the logic board is the base for the built-in rubber buttons in the S4. That means that if you try installing the arcade buttons, you won't be limited by the S4's case depth but from the space between the upper plate and the logic board beneath it. The VCI-100 arcade mod is only possible because the low row of buttons were on mini board below the jogs. With S4, it will all depend if it has only one huge logic board with all buttons/jogs/knobs/faders on it or it has several smaller boards. You cannot drill to make a whole in the board and then re-wire the arcade buttons ... |
Keva Sheward 04.02.2011 | I read that but I thought they were talking about the 24mm buttons on the VCI & Midi Fighter. They definitely will not fit. What about the 18mm or 20mm Sanwa buttons? From my measurements they should fit in the holes for the bottom 8 buttons on each side. They are roughly 15mm by 18mm. They may even fit in the upper 4 too if you space them correctly. They are 10mm by 18mm. |
Shirlee Depiazza 20.01.2011 | DJTT has already reported there's not enough room to add arcade buttons. It was in one of the first articles DJTT did about the S4 check the blog. |
Leeanna Ayla 19.01.2011 | You're going to have to open it up and take a look inside. Please document it well when you do as I've not built up the nerve to void my warranty yet. |
Matthew Yanagisawa 19.01.2011 | bump for this thread since when you google traktor s4 green knobs this is the second entry. Vestax knobs, VCI 100 knobs, green knobs, UV knobs, faders, traktor kontrol s4 mod, modding, chocolate covered traktor S4... lol Any ideas in how to mod the S4 with arcade buttons? |
Keva Sheward 09.01.2011 | I like where you heads at. Any progress so far? The faders and knobs can be replaced but some of mine are a little bit loose when I put them on. |
Matthew Yanagisawa 12.12.2010 | These buttons are translucent, if they could fit the space you ould also put some leds, or original led's maybe, in them!! http://www.lizardlick.com/search.asp....y=0&search=GO |
