S4 Turntable Timecode Problems!
S4 Turntable Timecode Problems! Posted on: 03.05.2011 by Brinda Sirman First off shout outs to this community
truly amazing, i post almost every other day and receive help all the time. ok so heres my problem, i have two tt-200 turntables that work great but when set up with the s4 the right turntable/deck b is always like .40 bpm faster . ive switched the turntables and used different ones on the same traktor scratch system and everytime the right table/deck b is just slightly faster making beat macthing more difficult, any ideas of what the problem could be. Next another problem which is less s4 specific; last friday i dj'd my first club gig with the s4+tables and i ended up having to turn the tables off. First off the needles kept bouncing and skipping messing up the track, any help on how to make them not skip from people jumping or high bass? and then also when in a full live situation they started picking up too much feedback even when grounded and couldnt calibrate correctly, but when djing in my house with them they calibrate perfect. anyhelp would be awesome thanks! | |

Joy Rory 04.05.2011 | I'd set the weight on your tonearm to 3-4grams when playing at home, and you can put an extra 2 grams on them when you're playing at the club. You can buy little 2 and 4 gram needle weights in the Dj shop. By the way; is your needle clean? That can be a hell of a problem; speaking from my own experience ;-) I'd also recommend to read this: http://www.djranking s.com/2009/07/2...rial-problems/ |
Tatum Ansaldo 04.05.2011 | if you keep having problems and no one else pipes in on this thread, PM Karlos when he gets back from his trip to scotland. He knows a lot more than me about timecode calibration and optimisation etc. |
Brinda Sirman 04.05.2011 | Oh yeah I've been using relative then! So good there and im just gonna weigh down the needles and adjust the tonearm and hopefully its correct. Deck b still is faster then deck a no matter what I do and I still haven't fixed the feedback/calibration problems in a club enviornment but maybe they will come around. Thanks for the help so far! |
Tatum Ansaldo 04.05.2011 | on the deck, next to the play button (when in timecode control mode) there are 2 buttons, one with a record with a tonearm which is absolute and one with just a record which is relative. Where the cue/cup buttons are in internal mode. It's all in the manual |
Brinda Sirman 04.05.2011 | still testing out all the things you guys mentioned. one thing im a little confused about is how do i make it "relative" where is that setting of ya said switch from absolute to relative and i see absolute in timecode setting but no relative anywhere. also any idea still why when im just mixing at home the calibration is two perfect circles for both turntables but then live in a club maybe because of more gear the two perfect calibration circles become big fuzzy blobs and dont respond well. they are both grounded to the screw in the back of the s4. any idea how to fix this? |
Tatum Ansaldo 03.05.2011 | have you swapped your timecodes over to see if they're the problem? unlikely but possible I suppose. Couldn't you just slow down the pitch fader slightly? In terms of skipping, definitely try balancing the tonearm (I use a piece of plain vinyl that I happen to have, an old DnB record that's only pressed on 1 side but there are other ways) and maybe add a gram or 2 to the tonearm weight if you're having real problems. And yes, use relative. That means that if you skip a groove it should carry on playing mostly uninterrupted, like skip-proof scratch vinyls. |
Brinda Sirman 03.05.2011 | you believet hat would messup the pickup/frequency thought to make them both go crazy in club environment because i use the cases at home and no problems. also i dont believe this has any relation to deck b always being faster. thank you so much for the help but pretty sure not answer to my problem |
Lisa Lochotzki 03.05.2011 | Sometime, the foam is too stiff, may try to put some less-stiff material underneath. Some tonearm adjustment can do miracles as well. |

Lisa Lochotzki 03.05.2011 | This might sound silly but are you sure you're on Phono and not Line?!? What Kind of Needles are you using, are they new? Try Switching from Absolute to Relative and compare wich of thise mode work the best for you. How the table sit at the evening club? Any Foam (or rubber band, or else) underneath? |
