using serato & traktor on same set of turntables & mixer.

Would this work using splitters? Has anyone tried it?

reason i'm asking would be nice not to change out soundcards with 2 dj's using the same decks.

Thanks
Jeff

my point was not to have to switch any cables while playing. Thanks DJDSpringer...

i believe this idea should be standard in clubs, it doesn't cost that much, but as we know club owners could care less about their djs.

Looks like you got it figured out but we have done this in the past by having the outs of one box go to the ins of the other and you just leave the one not in use in direct through mode. Something like this:

[1200]=\\.....//=\\............//=\\..............[<...0
.............[SL3].....[AUDIO6].....[MIXER]----|<..-|-..<-(dancing sexy female)
[1200]=//.....\\=//............\\=//..............[<...^

note: Periods (.) are space makers since I spent way to much time on that for it to not recognizes actual spaces. These //=\\ are RCAs.

Have either the SL3 or Audio6 in direct through mode and the correct timecodes on the TTs and you are good to go. Obviously you can make switch one channel and record over at a time in order to mix into each other.

Using the splitters will mean no switching of cables while playing, just like with the Magma box.
Not going to argue with how you spend your money though

The splitters are used for timecode input, not sound output. Are you saying that when using timecode there are minute differences in quality depending on whether you use splitters or not?
Doesn't timecode just work properly or not at all?

I just bought it on DJ deals for 158 shipped. Worth it for me ... I'll get use out of it. [gearslut/]

the difference we found was that the sound quality was much much better on a grand scale. i doubt you could tell the difference between the box and wire splitters with just like a normal PA setup. However, the place we were playing held roughly 8000 people and probably had 10-15 flyable speakers and 4-6 subs running on a given evening so when you blew the sound up the difference was definitely noticeable

It would be great if you were using a battle mixer with only two inputs, but even most 2 channel mixers have at least 4 switchable inputs these days. Is there really any benefit to using this $200 box over simple wire splitters?

Nice thanks! I love this site

Going to look around on price, for under $200 it's definitely worth to me.

there used to be a thing called a switchbox, not sure if they still make them anymore cause i haven't seen one around in a while. it was basically used for exactly what your talking about just changing DJ's over from serato to traktor instantly. we used it a couple of times in some of the clubs i worked and it works pretty nice. and im sure if they're discontinued now you could find one for real cheap

other way to do it is use two mixers, one being the "master" mixer. we work like this sometimes when we have big jams with several djs.

It's definitely overkill. That's why I'm figuring this out. But no way the music can stop.

everyone just needs to switch to traktor

Thanks for the advice.... Much appreciated!

Edit: it is fun to just get up and scratch when he's mixing. this club has no booth it's on stage so the crowd can see everything & they dig it when we do that.

If you're using 1210s the RCA will probably be hardwired so you'd need a splitter you can plug into like one of these:

The split end needs to connect directly to the turntable so you might need RCA couplers:

Bringing a whole extra set of turntables+mixer is a little overkill..
Can't the club handle a brief interruption, you can always put an Ipod or CD on surely?

mixing into/out of each other is what he wants the 2 opening dj's to do.

I also play with another DJ once a month. I usually open, he plays 2 hours & i'll end the evening for another hour or so. We use 2 setups now. Would be nice to leave my TT's & mixer at home.

Yep either 1male>2 female or 2male>4 female splitters will do the trick. Thats a lot of spaghhetti tho mate, unless you have to mix into/out of each other i don't really see the point.

Thanks... in theory i thought it would work.

Going to give it a shot in a few weeks. Have a gig opening for Magic Mike & another local DJ & they both use serato.

If you used RCA splitters you could wire up both sound cards beforehand and switch just over the vinyls for the next set.

I guess I should say 2 dj's using the same decks. with different sets. Not playing at the same time.

Would be nice to just change timecode vinyl & not mess with cables & soundcards.

You'd need different timecode vinyls and different sound cards for each setup. Therefore, nothing is really the same and you're just switching gear over.
