[PROBLEM] - Mapping? Gremlins? Gremlins! Posted on: 10.10.2011 by Tiana Krusz I've searched through other threads with no luck. I noticed some other people asking to "reset" to the default mappings/brand new state. I loaded a dubspot TSI and that would seem to be the obvious culprit. I've tried and failed to "return" my S4's cherry but it seems to be popped. I'm fairly methodical when it comes to this shit but I don't have a grasp on all of the possible places these things would linger. The problem is simple. None of the standard mappings for my s4 seem to stick. None of the buttons seem to work at all until I hit PLAY on the right side of the S4, doing that however loads a loop into all the sample decks, plays them, then starts the loop recorder. Aside from that "unique functionality" none of the transport/cue buttons/tempo faders work. The knobs for the EQ and filters work, but again, not the loop knobs. I will update with a more detailed description with what version of the whosiewhatsit and all that stuff, maybe even a video. I am at the point of tears, which I don't believe would fix it so I am rushing to post. | |

Kecia Wnukowski 12.10.2011 | Ok, I understand now. Well, as above that's very weird so yes your best bet is to erase all added mapping and see if the default mapping (the embedded one works. If that doesn't work, try a new fresh install as said above. I'm not that concerned about the button engaging the loop recorder, it happens sometimes to me too when I start the unit but that's a very minor annoyance. But all other things happening isn't a good news. You may have a faulty unit (that may also explain the strange behaviour even in midi mode: the play button isn't supposed to change layers...at all!!!). So don't take chances, personally I would return the unit and get a new one. |
Lana Felicien 11.10.2011 | Thats wacky! I might just say, uninstall traktor and start with a fresh install. Unless you got a bunch of mapping all on at the same time, it shouldn't be acting like that (as you all ready know). NI is gonna tell you to do this before you get an RMA # so might as well do that as a last ditch effort before you call it in. |
Tiana Krusz 11.10.2011 | Thanks for helping me out btw! I believe the controller editor part may have not been the best way to show the problem. I want to use it in standard mapping/ hid directly, not in midi mode.* My problem seems to persist between traktor hid mode and the controller editor midi mode. That is what I was trying to demonstrate using the controller editor. In traktor hitting the right play button will change the layout and begin all sorts of other things. None of the buttons on the controller work. I have another video of this happening in traktor using default hid. http://cousin-larry.tumblr.com/post/11337841200 |
Kecia Wnukowski 11.10.2011 | Ok. I'm not sure the following would help you but you're not 'that' supposed to use the midi mode as it's not the default layer. The controller editor (external software) is used to set the controls' settings only in midi mode so you can define which channels/messages/types of messages sent for each control (but for the shift button that is a kind of built in modifier in midi that changes all the other controls' midi channels). There's also in the controller editor an option to run from the start up of the s4 the unit in midi mode if you need it. I don't understand because if you're in normal mode (hid mode/default embedded mapping) the unit doesn't send any midi message. And the opposite is true too so if you're in midi mode you don't send hid messages. So I'm asking again the question as I didn't get it: do you want to use specifically the hid mode or the midi mode. And if you want to use the midi mode, why exactly or for what purpose? And if you use the hid mode, do you use a 'hid' type of mapping (ie hid commands); if you use the midi mode, do you use a midi type one (ie midi messages)? |
Tiana Krusz 11.10.2011 | This was just to show how the controller was responding to button presses. It does essentially the same thing in Traktor. It cycles through the layouts and no other buttons are responsive. This was supposed to be the default template so the play button shouldn't be acting like this. |
Kecia Wnukowski 11.10.2011 | hmm, interesting. But just for me to understand your issue, is there any specific reason why you do want to use the midi layer and controller editor? The midi layer isn't what you would call the 'default' state or mapping. ? |
Tiana Krusz 11.10.2011 | http://cousin-larry.tumblr.com/post/11330333349 This is a vid of the problem in action |
Tiana Krusz 11.10.2011 | I have cleared everything and started from scratch. Same problem. When I go into the controller editor it even acts strange, the CC10 button- right side play button seems to switch through the actual templates. None of the sample, cue, sync or shift buttons are even registering in the controller manager... except this right Play button |
Lana Felicien 11.10.2011 | Have you removed the mappings from the controller window? I might clear them ALL out, then just replace from the import drop down menu. Make sure that you set the midi send and receive are set to the fresh import. |
