Isidra Essman 08.11.2011 | UPDATE: well since i have upcoming gigs i do not have weeks to send in the s4 so i got a female connector, (4 for 5 dollars, with shipping) from ebay. and i simply cut out the middle part and placed it in the s4, it took some work but this does work as a quick cheap fix! |
Karolis Petrauskas 04.11.2011 | Excellent...you may want to keep on top of it after you send it in. I sent my x1 back and got it 3 months later. |
Isidra Essman 05.11.2011 | ill try that out bigbeatz, thank you, but it looks like NI is going to take it back, i just have to pay for shipping, but they will reimburse me |
Karolis Petrauskas 01.11.2011 | Try this, it has worked for me in the past: - Push the top 2 pins up a little bit, then push the bottom 2 down. Make it enough so they have a nice even space in between them. A butter knife or a flat head screw driver will help. Also have a pair of tweezers handy in case the pins bend. - Take a usb cable and on the end that gets plugged into the s4 put a small piece of electrical tape on it (you are putting this on the metal top). The idea is it will make the usb plug fit tighter in the socket. I just put it on the very top flat part. You can also put it on the bottom if that works better. - Plug in USB cable and test it out. If you look inside a USB cable you will see where the pins on the S4 should make contact. It may take a little bit of trial and error moving the pins up and down but once it works and the cable is securely in place you should be good to go. |
Isidra Essman 01.11.2011 | so far they havent gotten back to me, its only been two days, so ill wait until they get back to me to start the project, i bought four connectors for 5 dollars so i am going to see if i can simply break a piece off for a short fix. but if it comes down to having to do it myself ill see how the connectors are once it is open, whether like mentioned above about soldering a cable in place or replacing the port in general. |
Bridget Liner 01.11.2011 | What'd NI say about replacing it? The S4 doesn't seem very easy to take apart and then having to solder that on.. sounds like a pain unless you're an expert. |
Isidra Essman 31.10.2011 | i believe i can get a direct replacement if i have to, i have not tried to take it apart yet as im waiting to see if by some slim chance the warranty comes through but the usb type b connector seen in this picture(not mine) looks like it could be swapped out with a connector i found off ebay. but im not sure if it is an right angle or just straight pin connector Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/IMG] http://www.ebay.ca/itm/TYPE-B-USB-CO...item45f5f96876 hopefully it doesnt come down to this but if it does ill be sure to post up a diy for idiots like me. |
Lana Felicien 30.10.2011 | If your savvy enough, it shouldn't be too hard to get to and change. I would try to rip one of these apart to get the female socket http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812200830 You might get lucky and you may be able to open the housing on both and figure out to switch out the center piece. But you might just have an easier time wiring out the connections from the board to the new socket, because the pins might not line up. Or just wire in a old cable you got laying around and have a permanent cord attached. |
Isidra Essman 30.10.2011 | well i bought it used so i am pretty sure i have no warranty covering it. i wanted to avoid sending it in because i have booked gigs but i guess that might be the only thing to do. i was looking at replacement usb type b plugs and does anyone know if there has to be a special type to be able to also power the s4? [story of how it happened] well i pulled out the cable one day (very carfully because i have heard of this happening) , and it popped off. i just put the little piece that broke back in and put the usb in and cut a whole in my box i carry it in. then the other day someone decided to take the cord out when i was packing up. |
Lana Felicien 30.10.2011 | That pin is accessible, but I would just listen to everyone and get it serviced. As long as your in the US and under warranty it wont cost you a dime. It did take me 2 1/2 - 3 weeks to get it back, but was worth it. |
Joya Pomerinke 30.10.2011 | The USB is on the first print you reach when you open your S4. It is possible but i believe you should contact NI. Maybe the warranty covers it? |

Leeanna Ayla 30.10.2011 | Sounds like a warranty issue to me. I'm sure you could solder it if your good enough, but it looks like it would involve taking the S4 apart which is a feat in itself. |
