Selling my S4, opinions on new set up
Posted on: 08.11.2011 by Rufina Stange
I'm selling my S4 to pay for a pair of Technics 1200 mk2s and an Audio 6 w/Scratch Duo 2. As for a mixer I'm buying a DJM 909 dirt cheap off a friend of mine who quit DJing a couple years ago. I'm planning on adding an X1 a little later down the road.

-2 1200 MK2s
-DJM 909
-Audio 6 w/Scratch Duo 2
All for the price of $1,200
*Easy to get a used X1 for around $100

Would you give up your S4 for that?

I just can't stand not having turntables moving in front of me lol. Wish I would have never sold my CDJs and mixer, but at least I learned the ins and outs of Traktor, and can finally choose which medium I like best to mix with.

Come on your a dj, you have the confidence to not care what other people believe

I've used dicers quite a bit, but I'm planning on getting a used X1 for loops/cue and to control Traktors effects. I believe it'll fit nice between the mixer and a turntable. I've been believeing though...my god I'll have a lot of effects to choose from lol.

And map the S4 jog wheels to the effect banks. Yes.

I've been seeing more people use the s4 with other turntables and stuff. it pretty much eliminates the need to further purchase a sound card and program and all that.

Xone:92 or DB4, 1200's, dicers, X1 for effects or MIDIFighter.

Xone:92 for the 4 band EQ (which is amazing and is used a lot in the professional world. Plus it has the same features as the Xone:4D"

if you're going to the get 4D, just use two x1's. Then you pretty much have the same thing as the 4D anyway (similar to Richie Hawtin and Dubfire's setup) and it's less expensive.

The DB4 just because it has a neat layout and the onboard FX are pretty nice. Dubfire switched to the DB4 because he liked the delays, haven't tried it myself, but I spend a lot of time watching various DJs and their setup so I have an idea of where I'm going.

The x1's are obvious...

Same with the MIDIFighter. I'm looking into buying one soon, I really like all the different neat stuff you can do with it and it's a nice and cheap alternative to the NI Maschine.

I was going to get the S4 scratch upgrade, but for the price I'm getting the DJM 909 I can sell it for a nice profit if I really don't like it. I don't see myself buying an S4 again, but I wouldn't mind getting a Xone 4D in a year or two.

On another note, I was a hair away from ditching Traktor for Serato. I use both(all my friends use Serato), but the Audio 6 I'm getting is quite a bit cheaper than SL1, SL2, or SL3. I like Traktor, but now they'll be able to play off my new set up.
