S4 or s2
S4 or s2 Posted on: 28.02.2012 by Daine Ziadeh Im believeing of getting one of these dedicated controllers, what do you guys believe, get the s2 right away, or save a lilttle more till the s4?Im a 2 deck kinda guy, and if i wanted to trigger out samples or something i'd map them to my midi keyboard, seems like this answers the question, but i wanna hear something from you guys? | |

Johnetta Olewine 21.03.2012 | from all reports 2 timecode TTs do work with the s2 if its all hooked up via a a4,6,8,10... I would assume you would need to have purchased a traktor scratch upgrade too |
Laci Billingham 21.03.2012 | im really curious to see if this works would love to be able to use an s2 as an internal mixer with two 1200s to control the two decks instead of having to use the jogwheels |
Cyndi Grenz 21.03.2012 | You can use it in that way. But you will need traktor working at the same time that the CDJs, Maybe some can explain it better? |

But am glad to have those extra buttons and faders to play with. Interesting to see how good/notgood it works with the upcoming 2.5 release - but am loving it today so am happpy (and hungry as splurged everything -roll on payday) |
Laci Billingham 21.03.2012 | if i have an audio 6 can i use 1200's as controllers with an s2 as my mixer? |
Cyndi Grenz 19.03.2012 | So here goes my question: Can I map the sync to swap from deck A to C and from deck B to D ?? |

Cira Ditz 14.03.2012 | Hi everyone - I just joined the community
and read with great interest this particular thread. I've been a DJ for many years and been using Traktor Pro2 with my Numark Omni for about a year now and love it. Just recent;y got the Traktor2 Bible and just getting to grips with all in there, but still early days just yet. What I've also been doing is saving up for an S4, as the various 4 channel faders/loop recorder/filter knobs really appealled. had in mind a 2 deck/2sample deck set up and using lots of effects and triggered samples But having read tthrough this, am now wondering if maybe the S2 maybe a better option (especially as some of you've created maps that can do what the S4 is capable of) - and the obvious price saving on the current offer. Have just this minute also been reading about the upcoming F1 which also looks really great for how I want to progress with my DJing. So what was hoping to ask all you guys whop've already used the S4 and S2s (and prob have a good idea how the F1's will work alongside), but should I go for an S2/F1 combination and be able to achieve all an S4 can do (or more), or should I get the S4 ? to be honest, I never really considered the S2 before as thought it might not be any more flexable than my Numark Omni - so I guess my other question would be, should I just stick with the Numark and get a couple of F1's (or even an X1 as well?) Hope you can help - am a bit confused with te new options and don't want to miss out on the S2 price offer if I do go for that one. Cheers for any advice |
Leota Declercq 13.03.2012 | +1 on jiggle I have his map and it is fricken awesome. No need for an s4 |

I bought a DJ Fusion Workstation bag...and it holds a whole lot o stuff! - S2 price point is very good at $449. At $649 would be a tough sell when compared to the S4. - I already own an Audio 6 card and thus can use my CDTT or Technics along side the S2 using the Audio6 as the audio interface. - I already own an X1 so is perfect along side the S2 for better sample control. - I rarely DJ with 4 decks. One thing to note though since there is no input you won't have a back up in case your laptop goes down. But I am not sure what happens if the laptop crashes with the S4? I would assume you lose your input as well... I am not sure why people keep mentioning the filter button. In the settings menu you can change the gain to be the filter and then shift-gain to use the gain as normal... One thing though I am skeptical of is the upcoming new release of traktor...I hope...and doubt it doesnt make the S2 less useable...I don't believe so though. Would have loved the S4...but in the end does not suit my DJing style. The S2 will be great for smaller gigs and bringing with to the cottage in the summer J-Mo |
Alla Bluemke 12.03.2012 | honestly with the savings you can buy a x1 along side and still have $ left over. I prefer the S2, it compact, does basically everything the S4 does. |

I went though the same thing. in the end I went with the S4, and personally, Im glad I did. at a gig, I would be fine with a S2 because I like to keep it simple and use the sample decks much less. The filter knobs during gigs are clutch though. It would be hard for me to let them go. the reason I say Im happy with the S4, is because when I bedroom DJ or play for friends I like to push the S4 to its limits and use virtually everything it offers. I would feel too limited with the S2. In the end the only drawbacks to the S4 are the size and the price. Obviously if you can use the money you save to buy another controller with the S2, you could easily compromise the lost features. Honestly the only reason I dont use the DJTT S4 map is because of the Loop indicator issue. Thats not a problem with the S2. Add an x1 or MF Pro and I'm sure you could do more than the S4. just my thoughts, hope it helped A poll on this topic would be cool.. if there isn't one already out there |

Kami Sawan 02.03.2012 | My s2 has filters, it comes with the DJ TECH TOOLS MAPPING. |
Valeri Babiak 02.03.2012 | Just got an S2 today, headed home from work in a minute to hook it up. Im hoping to use it in my set toevening
!! Its 4pm here in the UK so i have time to practice with it before my set at 10 Agree with the arguements for it. Carry weight and size is a massive issue as i play in many bars and small clubs with tiny booths. You get filters on the effects units so i dont see a problem there at all!!! And as you guys have said, map it up to your needs |
Jarod Perrodin 29.02.2012 | Yeah, you can with the s2 and an audio 4/6/8/10 as well. It will mix through traktor, You cant use them without a computer attached. |
Daine Ziadeh 29.02.2012 | So you're saying you can use the S4 as the mixer with 2 cdj's? |
Jarod Perrodin 29.02.2012 | If you want to use cdj's or decks you'l need an input, the s4 has 4 I believe, the s2 only has outputs (but can be used with ni audio interfaces) The S4 only has a master out, the S2 has master and booth out, basically you can set the level of the booth out separate from the master out |
Daine Ziadeh 29.02.2012 | Can you explain me what's this inputs on the S4 and the Booth out on the S2 used for? like, what do i plug into this? |
Francina Decosse 29.02.2012 | +1 on Jiggle unless you don't need the inputs of the S4, S2 is fine. And the cost diff is worthed, especially with the new NI deal. I love my S4, but i'll be just fine with S2 |
