+1 for the KRK's - I went with full intentions of paying about 120 quid for a set of monitors and ended up listening to the KRK's and immediately bought them.

They sound great and look pretty decent too!!!

I shoot 3's from my computer chair.

I don't know if I made myself clear though....I would bring these out to house parties or parties at my place....Not only in my room.

Basically, would they be precise enough to pick up frequencies while mixing even at low levels in my room?

Or would the KRK 8's be good enough for that?

Does anyone believe these small PA would be fine for house parties (no more than 50 ppl)

http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-EURO...3218516&sr=1-1

Probably minimal bass but people would be drunk and probably wouldn't care.

I picked up a pair of Yamaha MSP5's for about 200 used...the clarity is absolutely ridiculous on them. I'd definitely recommend hunting a pair down before getting krks.

i have now upgraded to a pair of KRK ROKIT 8's, the sound is great. Well worth the extra money

Anything else about the reloops? They appear to have a really good freq response.

They look pretty good actually, for the price, but if you're going to get KRKs then why not just do it now?

The KRK 8s would do that for you amply. Thumps are not designed for bedroom use!

Knew I would find this thread....So im looking at active speakers also but I want something loud enough for small house parties every once in a while...my dilemma

KRK 8's for about $225 or
Mackie thumbs 15a for $200...i found a good deal.

Obviously the mackies are meant for parties but do they still have good range for mixing or practicing in my room?

Only if you set it correctly and your room allows it to "sound" properly.

I agree with these guys, 8's can give you some additional uses when needed but definitely on the edge of the budget or more... I would wait till I have enough for them

I love my KRK8's and your right about them being loud, even enough to throw a little house party. They might actually be too loud for a small room though as I have to keep the volume pretty low not to blow my ears out lol

This is right but I have owned av40s and while the sound is decent they caused some fatigue specially with high freqs...

I now have mr8s which may be overkill but I can listen to them the whole day...that said who knows if thew bx5as are smooth?

Damn, over here I believe the KRK RP5s are even more expensive than the Mackie MR5s?

I was doing a test of monitors in a shop last week. Had a vs listening on:
KRK 5
KRK 6
KRK 8
M-Audio BX5a
M-Audio BX8a
Yamaha HS50M
Yamaha HS80M

The 8s are too large for my room and space, but I wanted to know what I will be missing if I have 5s.

The HS50M & HS80M have the best clarity and balance from all above. I'm going with the HS50M, although their low-end is poorer than all the others.

I can strongly suggest the HS50M for low budget monitors!
PROS: Very accurate, clear and detailed sound!
CONS: Weaker bass (need a sub if you want to hear the low spectrum) and nothing similar to the average club sound - high quality sound is not always better ...

BX5a is a good budget alternative IMO.

I ordered a pair of RP5s yesterday from decks.co.uk. Went into the store but they didn't have them in stock, got to test them alongside the 6s though and they really hold their own. Amazing quality for 5 inch monitors at that price.

Tried out the VXT series while I was there and my god, they have punch. if anyone's after a pair of VXT8s they have some B-grade ones in the sale with only cosmetic damage to the box (speakers pristine) for about

There great, but too small. Can't get a good and thorough bass out of it.

I would recommend the Mackie MR-5 for better sound, or better yet, get MR8s.
