Here's my review of DJTechTools JogGrips - those rubber grips you've seen in pictures on the site. Well, essentially they're bumpy rubber circles that you stick on your platters to increase the non-scratch area on your controllers and make your VCI look generally badass.

Here's what comes in the package, a single page of instructions and two rubber stickers. The bumps are a very light pattern over the surface, not abrasive lumps as I imagined them.

To Scale with a VCI-100 on a messy desk:

Man, these things are dangerously sticky, but not in a "rip the paint off your device" sticky, more a gooey "not going anywhere" kind of sticky. They'll definitely come off if you make a mistake, just pull slowly with constant pressure and they should come off without leaving much residue. Only time will tell what removing them after long term use will hold, but there's always solvents you can use to remove stickers when that day comes.

Place the sticker *lightly* on one half of the platter, align the edge and work around the circumference making sure the grip lines up with the edge. Finally, press down sliding towards the center to stick. Surprisingly easy if you don't try and align it all in one go. The instructions talk about trimming off the excess with a razor blade if you get overhang, but you'd have to be pretty careless to reach that point.

After application it looks like this:

With? Without? Having larger area for non-scratch operations fits perfectly with my layered style of DJing (I can't scratch to save my life) so for me these things are most definitely an upgrade.

Plus, you get a fun sticky circle to play with afterwards, I used mine to add a non-slip back to my cellphone. Recommended!

This feels like a fair price considering how much they cost to produce and the work involved in personally shipping each one. Remember, this is not a mass produced product that is on guitar center's shelves like slip mats (which cost between $17-25) but a one of a kind very niche product that was custom designed and hand packaged for Dj Tech Tools.

Its also just a creative way of paying the bills around here so we can expand our services to others without going the dreaded advertising route.
you could add a "donate" function. via paypal or something. i'd throw a few bucks here and there.

also: how many job grips are there? is it a limited suppy? i don't want to miss out on getting them if i wait a couple months...

Yeah thats what sucks about the laws of economics, unless your buying in massive quantities(which i am sure DJTT is not) the per product cost is going to be high. This is very much a niche product so i never expected it was going to cheap. But hey, theres no user mod thats going to look that good and knowing Ean, this isn't some cheesy gimmick product hes flogging off on us to help pay the web bills.

Good idea and good service. I just cant help feel a bit disapointed when I just payed $30.95 USD for shipping yesterday (bought the grips and firmware update package).

22.08.2008
BTW, we are throwing in free shipping world wide if you buy jog grips with the firmware upgrade package or 2 sets of jog grips.

I am not saying Ean is trying to make pure profit off all of this, but just feel it is too high. I would believe these are not mass produced and maybe a custom run at a low batch, so prices could be a little higher than one would believe, but I would honestly believe $13-14.95 max would be quite reasonable and still then not even a bargain. When I saw $24.95, I was a bit in shock, unless it was made from carbon fiber space age NASA materials.

Yeah, 20 dollars is a a better price, but if you set it at $19.99, i bet you'll sell a lot more. coming from a long line of retail jobs you'd be surprised how much more you sell by bringing it down to $19.99 then having it at a flat $20 dollars.

Also, would there be a way to cut the center into fourths so it can be used on the bottons of the vci to give it more grip on the table / desk? I'd probablly use a cheap dice cut to do it (like the ones found at craft stores)....

Depending on the type of scratching your doing these can either help or hurt. I would recommend trying them out and if you dont like them- we will refund your money.

more info has just been posted here:

In terms of price, do you guys believe $20 would be a bit more reasonable?

I have a jerker too, I've had it for like 8 years now I believe?

On topic - I believe the jog grips are a great accessory but I don't need them. Enjoy them for those who bought a pair =)

I was a little disappointed that the grips took a lot of real estate of the inner wheel... I wish that they only covered the outer wheel surface because for DJs who grab the wheels "traditionally" (i.e. outer upper left side / quadrant of the turntable) for scratching, they'll need to adjust. I the I guess one could modify them by cutting out the portion that covers the inner wheel.

Although I my system has too much lag to perform faster / complex turntablist style cuts, baby scratches and chirps are still achievable but have proven to be hindered by these grips... at least for the way I grip the wheels.

P.S. Does everyone have that IKEA desk? lol
