Korg Zero 4 owners, likes/dislikes?
Posted on: 10.04.2008 by Fady Soliman
Thinking of picking one up and using it with Traktor, will still need a deck controller so im believeing of pairing the Zero 4 with a Denon 2500. This way I can use the 2500 as a back up if the lappy decides to crash. (note: the 2500 takes about 20 to 30 sec to switch from midi to usb/hd, software boot)

I've read both good and bad about the Korg so I was wondering if there are any owners that can give us your thoughts, likes, dislikes.

Maybe Ean can do a review???? (nudge, nudge) LOL

Thx!!!!

For me, it 'd probably be a laptop/external HDD and a Korg Zero that need placing.
TBH, I might go for an Ecler Nuo4 next to my BCR.
Spacewise, that's two mixers and I still need to drop my laptop somewhere. :P
The laptop can always go on a laptop stand. I put my vci-100 on foam on top of the CDJs or the turntables... that works great... I really like this mixer, but I believe it'd just be impractical unfortunately.

That's how I would do it, and also how, as I've heared, others are doing it.

So my problem with that is sort of the same as my problem when mixing internally. The EQs of the chained mixer get softened by the EQs of the main mixer. That I believe is a real draw back to not mixing on the main mixer.

Second, there's still that damn space issue. I've had to come up with some creative placements of my VCI-100 already. Add a second piece of gear ... scratch that... third and there's aren't going to be many clubs you can comfortably set up your gear .

You'd be bringing a laptop, mixer and vci-100. Where would this stuff all go?

I brought one (1000 NZD ) a few weeks ago,

Its a beast, the most advanced mixer I have ever used.

Each channel has its own fx controlled by four knobs in line with the eq.

You have three digital modes (each channels mode is set indepedantly)

1 - Audio only, all the knobs/buttons are used by the mixer for on board fx eqs, faders etc. But the source is the built in soundcard
2- Audio + midi, this removes the onboard fx, allowing you to assign all the fx knobs as midi in your software.
3- Midi only, all controls are midi.

A cool feature is all the knobs are back lit, when they are controlling an onboard function they are orange, when they are midi they are green.

The master fx uses a contactless fader for the dry/wet + 10 Here, and the built in fx are awesome, as you would expect from korg.

I love this mixer

me and kaon will be using it to mix 4 decks externally with tpro, and two VCI's once the firmware update is released.

I still believe if you configure/map the Korg well enough, you wouldn't need the VCI.

You don't need jogs if you don't scratch, Rotaries will suffice.

nope not at all, its solid and it looks beautiful, much better than the djm 800 imo, both looks and functionality. all the faders, knobs, buttons on the 4 channels can be assigned to midi if i remember correctly, i've never used it before, but i believe its everything shy of the fx section, the sampler, and perhaps the crossfader and the a/b button for the crossfader. but don't quote me on that, let me verify when i find the time to not be lazy. but i've had it for nearly 4 months and its been with me non-stop. well worth the 975$ i paid for it, retails for about 1300 but i got a sweet deal on ebay. ooh just checked on djdeals and their clearance price is 999$.

Seriously believeing about upgrading my djm600 to a korg zero 4.

Couple of questions though - do you need an additional soundcard to use traktor with this or does it have one built in over firewire?

Thanks in advance.

My little brother uses the KorgZero with a Korg Micro Control for use with Ableton7. He absolutley loves it. Being a Dubstep dj he enjoys having the mixer control most of the main functions. As well the on board sampler to record scratch sets and loops so he can layer further scratch routines.

I myself have been believeing on picking one up as well.

I believe it is MIDI learn on the right-side pots per channel.

hmmm. I'm very tempted to get one of these... pretty much an all in one controller....

What I really want to know is Which of the controls on it can be mapped to midi!

i believe Korg zero4 is great, specs and features are awesome, only thing about it is u gotta have budget, c what i mean. if u can afford 1k$ - then u're lucky to have one great piece of device

the zero4 looks really nice in terms of features, it's a 4channel mixer where you can hook it up to traktor scratch without the audio8. Sounds like a really good deal to me.

i got a korg zero 4 its beautiful man i use it with a vci 100 and a akai mpd24 its pretty sick. i have not noticed any hissing issues, its been just house beats over and over lol. i would seriously recommend it to anybody, over the djm 800 or any other 4 channel mixer seriously bang 4 buck

well my passion is beat mixing trance all by ear so i do wanna have full control with the decks so using the mixer as a deck controller is not much of an option. I also would like a back up incase my computer crashes.

im also believeing of picking up a TT and using Traktor scratch to learn the old school way of mixing.

korg is looking like it will do the job just worried about the hisss issue

you can also use the korg mixer with traktor scratch...and add something like a trigger control for looping, cue points....

Why not hook this mixer up to ableton.. Don't believe you need a deck controller than.
