Random X 06.11.2009 | +1 on Lantau's advice. That or look at Ecler mixers.(Nuo 4/5 or Evo 4/5 depending on cash) |
Lolita Breaker 06.11.2009 | I'd put a vote in for Allen & Heath, Xone 42 or if cash stretches a Xone 92; both excellent 4-channel mixers with superb sound quality I've used a Xone 62 more myself and despite being a 6-channel mixer I'd recommend that too as they're likely to be cheapest second-hand as they're one of the older mixers A&H do No frills on any of those except for the juicy filters |

Dj LsEx 04.11.2009 | I can't say enough great things about Ecler's mixers. Niiiiice sound, warm eq's with full attenuation, and the big, fat knobs are luxurious. With eq knobs this big, it's possible to snap them down and back to zero in a switch-like fashion. The Nuo 4.0 is their basic 4 channel mixer, and it's pretty no-frills. I've got the three channel version of this mixer and am very happily married to it. |
Shelby Blancaflor 04.11.2009 | the nuo series gets very good reviews, I bought a second hand smac pro recently (which was the predecessor) for around 100 Euros which has seen about four to five years of use and it is still in mint condition. anyway if you`re going to buy a new one, any decent shop should allow you to lug your gear there and test a couple of mixers anyway. That should help you more than any community . |
Santi Taos 31.10.2009 | what about an ecler nuo 4? never used one but heard good things about it. decent price too. |
Daniell Ramji 30.10.2009 | Several pro level djs in the industrial scene here in AZ have been using the Behringer DDM4000 with much success. Build quality seems to be pretty good for behringer, and it has the added bonus of effects and MIDI. My first mixer was a used Pioneer DJM-3000, ad it worked perfectly for 2+ years. I sold it last week to a friend and got a Mackie D.4 Pro. Just illustrating that there are some great deals to be had in the global recession. I've seen DJM 800s going for 400.00 US. |
Deeanna Dadust 30.10.2009 | I have aimed this buyers guide at the novice DJ who is doesn't have a strong grasp of what features are important in their DJ mixer. There is a huge variety of DJ gear out there so I have boiled it down to three mixers that I have used and rate highly. Use these DJ mixer tips to save your wallet! |
Corey Tronchin 30.10.2009 | Technics SH-MZ1200 was the one I was referring to. |
Gaylene Castanza 29.10.2009 | Yeah, but it does the job for midi and production work. I have no idea about actual DJ mixer's yet, I've just started getting into the tech side of music. |

It obviously doesnt have the countless features of the higher quality mixer's, but it does the job. If you dont want to spend more than 100-150 AUS, I suggest the Xenyx range, but keep in mind its nothing special AT ALL. |
Irvin Cee 25.10.2009 | I'm also looking for a basic 4 chanel mixer with vumeters per channel. In the 300 |
Lorrine Eckstein 26.10.2009 | By basic I mean - No effects / or USB connections etc. As I just want the mixer to mix externally with traktor - Using a controller for effects & all the fancy stuff Thanks for every1's input will check them out Cutta |
Irene Larner 26.10.2009 | If money is not an issue, check out Dateq XTC II, Rodec BX-9 and Hi-Level PM 4000 Mixers. They look crappy (especially the Hi-Level ones), but they are absolutely indestructible and sound brilliant (as far as the Dateq and Hi-Levels are concerned, I never had my hands on a Rodec). All of them don't have separate level meters per channel though, but show levels when cueing. If you're going the "no-frills route" because you're on a budget, I had good experiences with the vestax vmc004. It does have level meters for every channel, and it sounds pretty good for the money. Some people say that the faders have too much resistance, but I personally believe they're fine. Don't know anything about the technics mixers that Michielygil mentioned, so I can't comment on that. But whatever you buy in the end, test it properly first. |
Corey Tronchin 26.10.2009 | check out technics, they have a very good 4 channel mixer for about 400 if you search well. Second hand should be even cheaper. Build like a tank and looks shiny too |
Leota Saniuk 25.10.2009 | basic to me means no thrills as in fx, soundcard, midi etc. plus no fancy input/output routing. or in other words 3/4 band eq and volume faders plus a monitor out. |
Irene Larner 25.10.2009 | Define "basic" please :-) |
