VCI-100 and Pro X Fade Crossfader - works :) Posted on: 25.09.2008 by William Kelley Hey,I've successfully integrated a Pro X Fade Crossfader into the VCI-100 Without going into detail: The feel is much better than with the standard crossfader. Excellent for sratchers! More details and pictures here http://www.native-instruments.com/fo...ad.php?t=71192 | |

I am going to start playing using my new setup at this seasons Psy gigs using an external mixer (seeing as its an Xone 92) and this will work perfect for just the 2 channels. For the Electro....I am aiming to control 4 decks....mixing internally. So TSP will STILL be the best option, as well as the PXF for the VCI. WOW.....i believe i actually figured it all out. I now know exactly how it will be setup. Hardware and Software. Sorry for Hijacking the thread....but it IS still PXF related....in a way! |

This is quite off putting without a bit of practice with the standard crossfader, especially to those who have grown up using analogue mixers. if you haven't already read the article i recommend doing so - http://www.djranking s.com/2008/11/0...00-crossfader/ |

Also had a really interstering point when i closed it up. the wire not attached must have touched the casing, so when i moved the xfade to the left all lights went out on the vestax and as soon as i moved it right the came back on. so i have blanked the loose wire with some insulating tape and all is well. Fader is excellent for scratching, i have noticed a real difference in an hour. i have a little less hair, but it is worth it. cheers Guys |
Mia Boonie 09.11.2009 | HI Guys Decided to do this and i am (as i thought) lost with the wires. i have read the NI thread and the instructions seem really clear, but.... i dont know what bypass means. i have kept trying the wires in different combinations but seem to be driving myself insane as nothing had moved in traktor pro no matter how i put the wires in. Help Please i have a vci upside down with no clue of how to attach the wires. cheers Michael |
Reece Murray 17.09.2009 | My bad, dude. Cap, I mean fader cap, LOL! Though putting a potentiometer in the xfader position wouldn't be an out-of-the-question mod. Some of those really great sounding old mixers have rotaries instead of faders - not my bag though. I like faders, and this thing is just a big slab of butter. Yum. |
Lilliana Perris 16.09.2009 | How you using it with the knob.....knob? JOKES!!! I am REALLY Tempted to get one.... But I have all i currently need and need to get on top of it first.....before i attempt this. But i am gonna.......DEF! |
Reece Murray 16.09.2009 | PaddyDJ, Thank you so much for the tip on the Pro X Fade. I installed the thing last evening , and it is REALLY nice. My wires didn't work according to your diagram, but a little trial and error sorted it out. I can't wait till Eclectic Breaks sends me a replacement fader knob (somehow the knob didn't make it into my fader package). If I like it this much even with no knob... |
Reece Murray 04.09.2009 | Thrashed the stock crossfader some time ago, been looking forward to getting one of these bad boys in the VCI... and now it's on the way! I'll let you all know how it goes! |

Lilliana Perris 30.08.2009 | I believe the Innofader might be a bit too big?? LOL....Minnofader....and PXF2......YEAH YEAH......its been YEARS!!!! I believe the Innofader is a heavier Xfader compared to the PXF and it unbreakable (well just about). The PXF seems to be a little more complex...with having to service it etc. But I WANT IT! |
Usha Leahan 29.08.2009 | you only need your Audio 4 ...for your 2 PDX & the 2 Jogwheels all you do is map the jogwheels & some button and knobs for decks 3 & 4... & have time code vinly control decks 1 & 2 I'm believeing off a Innofader for my vci-100 What do you believe Innofader VS ProXfader for my vci |
Kori Shatz 29.08.2009 | Yes, I believe it's possible tu use your pdx's with your VCI and audio 8 to have 4 decks control. I use Cross with timecodes because I don't have a lot of money and only need to use 2 decks... |
Lilliana Perris 29.08.2009 | Yeah, I know all about the PXF and was waiting for the PXF 2, to be able to install in my DJM600 mixer. I have since sold the mixer and bought the VCI. I still own a pair of PDX 2000's also. What i want to know is (and i believe i just answered it myself) is why you would want to use this on a VCI if the jog wheels are not exactly made for scratching. *I can scratch on the jog wheels better than i can with vinyl...LOL* So I just realised that you can use Traktor Scratch Pro using the VCI with Timecode Vinyls and then obviously the PXF.......duh! HEHEHHEHE Is this correct? I am about to buy Traktor Pro and seeing as I no longer have a mixer, only the VCI....I was pretty much forgetting about my PDX 2000's. So if i can run them via the VCI and use the Timecode Vinyls to control as well as the VCI jogs.....that would just be fucking AWESOME. ( I had not yet thought of this scenario really) So if thats the case.....then I am going to get TSP instead and a set of Timecode Vinyls. Then get the PXF so we can scratch. I only have the Audio 4 DJ, so will need to upgrade to the Audio 8 if i want to use the Vinyls and VCI Jogs ( 4 decks in total) Is this possible? Please say YES! If so....all my setup issues are gone!!!!!!!!!!! |
Kori Shatz 29.08.2009 | Thanks again for the tutorial and the original post of Paddy DJ on the NI community
, I am using it with PDX 2000 and Cross for scratching only (no arcade buttons, sorry Ean, you are so talented but I am not an innovative "controllerist" - "Cue points buttons juggler"!!!) 1. Use the Caig lube 2. Set the cut at the minimum 3. I put the faceplate of the VCI and had no problem with it 4. I used the lighter adjustment for the tension (you can blow on it, it moves...) 5. Sharp cuts, fast crabs & flares, amazing and even better than a lot of others analogue mixers (Vestax CF_PCV - Technics - Ecler not eternal...) 6. Best mixer ever, because even if it is difficult to do some tears combos with the tiny jog wheels, but with a laptop, a soundcard and a backpack, you can scratch anywhere (except for doing tricks with the stiffest volume faders of the VCI - A.K.A the shame...), what can you do with a TTM 57 SL on vacations in your backpack... Watch it and be proud to have spent an indecent amount of money ??? Thanks again to Paddy DJ, Best mod ever for turntablists on vacations without turntables!!! |

Lilliana Perris 28.08.2009 | I was wanting to do this mod since before i got my VCI. Tell me....why did you do it? What functionality did you want that you did not get from the original XFader? I would also like to do it.....but my idea was just from Scratching etc.....but I have found that I can work it pretty well as is. I suppose i am just looking for a for a few more reasons to get me over the edge. |
Kori Shatz 28.08.2009 | So Good!!! I read this post ten thousand times and today is the big day, my PXF is on his way!!!! I read and prepared everything I can to install it... I was just wondering what kind of tool do I need to use to remove the pins from the plastick socket, I presume I can use the screwdriver wich comes with the PXF? Is there a particular method to achieve this, it's very small and I don't have the talent of a watch manufacturer? Sooo excited!!! Thank you so much for your help, big up to Paddydj!!! |
05.12.2008 | I successfully installed my pxf in my vci today! really simple install thanks to the instructions from paddydj! the lag time isn't as tight as i'd like it to be so i have to open my vci back up and tweak it a bit... but other than that, a great cross fader in general, and works wonderful with the vci. sorry no pictures... but trust me it sounds good! EDIT! Adjusted the Lag Time wheels again, much better, might even go sharper in a few weeks... |

Take pictures.. btw: don't forget to adjust the PXF and particularly to use the caig deoxit on the rail the pxf is gliding on. It will make it run very smooth! If it does not, maybe the stem is rubbing against the faceplate. I've taken my faceplate off because this was the case. If you have other problem and the pxf doesn't run in your vci as smooth as out of the box, just ask and I'll help you, I've already gone through several things. But I believe it will work all well. |
22.11.2008 | bought a pxf cheap on eBay, can't wait to put it in!!! |
Axiss Xs 07.10.2008 | oh my god!! nothing more to say....so awesome! |

William Kelley 26.09.2008 | Please read post #15 in the Native community s to be sure you will not damage the unit if you want to get a PXF in it. |
Natan/Mateusz Naguszewski/Wierzbicki 25.09.2008 | this is awesome. hats off. looks like i got another vci project to look into / tackle. (maybe move this thread to the custom community though...?) |
25.09.2008 | wow! didn't believe something like this would work (thought the fader was midi/digital/too big)... hats off to you! off to ebay to find a pro xfade... could i put a stanton focus fader in? i guess not... looked at the one i had - too big to fit in the vci... |
Elia Ajram 25.09.2008 | PXF in the VCI? Hotness indeed Paddy. |
