Ean keeps talking about 'machine shops' to cut out the holes in the plate.
I havn't got a clue what the english equivilant would be? Any suggestions?

I wouldn't use one of these, as there is a square hole (the old buttons) where your mandrill would need to be placed. This would then lead to the drill not having its pilot hole for stability, hence the arbour and cutter would skid around wildly when you try to drill your faceplate. Even using a cone cutter would prove problematic.

Using a round file would be better.

I have .. did mine with a handfile. The holes are well rough but the overlay and buttons cover it all. As long as you dont make them too big your laughin !

Isn't it just a case of having to turn 8 rectangular holes into 8 round ones? You could do that yourself with a hand file (admittedly it would take a while), or better yet a Dremel or similar would be way faster. It doesn't matter if the holes aren't perfect as the buttons will have a lip on them that will cover the area around the hole.
Have not done this mod myself but have done lots of similar metalwork.
