I am actually believeing about switching the colours, so that e.g. the transport buttons lights blue when not engaged, and white when pushed.

This is the sorta LED you want, Farnell ships out of the UK as well ...
Thanks for the link!

I believe that Blindset means that under each button thers a green and a yellow LED. Do you pull them out and put two or just one blue LED back in? If only on, how should it be placed?

midfidler, you say one white and one blue LED under each button. Whats the white one used for?

Hi Guys, I decided to mod the LEDs on my VCI to blue and white just recently and it took a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't until I got near the end that I thought I should have made a video - anyway, I did video some of it and have posted it on you tube.
Here's the link with some details;

Hey blindset,

The LEDs are not bi color... They just use 2 3mm thru-hole LEDs for each button. I believe you will get away with pretty much anything that comes in a 3mm package.

Hey guys,

Just wondering if any one has any information about the LED type that is used so that I can find a replacement. Is it also possible to find another bi-colour type?

not as far as i know, i just switched them and they worked fine, the only thing is to take care of the poles (+/-), cause leds are directionsensitive
hope you post your pictures after finishing your job

An old thread but thought to use this one instead of new thread.

I'm planning on replacing the leds. Opened up the VCI last evening and there seems to be a lot of work ahead. Lot's of those little bastards inside.

But could someone who has replaced the leds tell me what kind of leds did you use? They seem to be 3mm size but are there any other spesifications? What kind of resistance is needed?

I have been believeing of ordering some Rane rubberised knobs and faders to complete my black conversion, and they have awesome feel. If any one out there has both a VCI and a Rane could you check if the Rane knobs will mount on the VCI ?

I was believeing of modding one of these bad boys with a Technics 1210 theme, primarily blackening it to a 2 tone gray/back matte finish just like a genuine 1210 and if i could get use of a CNC lathe i'm pretty confident i could make up some pretty genuine looking miniature technics platters to replace the jog wheels with.
had an idea too, to use genuine technics replacement pitch slider heads for the volumes/faders/pitch. some genuine technics start/stops would tie the look/function together NICE but i don't believe they'd fit it unless I made a new lower plate altogether, if even.
might even fit some genuine technics feet to the base!! LOL!
anyone else on a brainstormer?? if you have any, get the ideas up, no matter how funny they might sound, give the rest of the members some inspiration!
get the finger out!

- is changing the leds hard if you're not a pro electrician ? is there a risk of completing destroying the vci if you're not really talented for DIY ?

There is a potential chance of destroying certain electronic components, in particular transistors. You could also apply too much solder and cover multiple paths, or too little and have a connection that will give out after a while. I would certainly try your hand at a hobby kit or two and get a feel for soldering before attacking your VCI with no experience. That said changing LED's is one the easier things to do when it comes to soldering, so don't get frightened, just be sensible and practice a little on something else first

4 little questions here :
- do you loose the warranty if you paint your VCI black and change the leds ?
- could you guys but a tutorial with a bit more advices on the exact process of how to remove the case and change the leds
- is changing the leds hard if you're not a pro electrician ? is there a risk of completing destroying the vci if you're not really talented for DIY ?
- how did you paint the knobs ?

Would it be possible to repaint the vci-100 with glow in the dark paint I mean know you could do that for the body of it, but would the jog wheel plates need special conductive paint is the thing I'm wondering?

nice work! thats great. Get in touch with me directly and lets put together a brief tutorial on how some parts of this job could be duplicated by others. Then we can post that on the blog.

I'd like to see how you did the LED mods...This is something I would love to do.

Also, what paint did you use on the knobs? Do you notice the paint rubbing off?

BIG-UPS on the mods.

I was believeing of sand blasting and painting my VCI-100 with a little airbrush art on it. Ill post here when i get around to it (eventually). Plan on putting the arcade buttons on too, they look like a great mod.

I love what you have done with the LED's this is fantastic ! How hard were the LED's to resolder ? Defiantly inspiring me to do this myself.

Though i wonder if i painted it if the jogs would still behave correctly? this worries me ! Anyone have any ideas about this ?

I have to give the letting some thought too, not too sure how i will tackle that just yet.
thanks for your compliments!

about the LED-mod: it took me one very long evening (till

yes
the case was sandblasted, brushed and then anodized
the plates were sanded, phospatised and than blackened
afterwards the plates were superscribed with a yag laser (many thanks to the super nice guy from "zill lasertechnik", he charged me only 50
