Firstly it will pretty much HAVE to be CNC'd to get all the holes and gaps in the correct places, no one could do all that accurately by hand, and i'm fairly experienced with woodwork. Secondly it'll have to be pretty thin, like 3 or 4 mils max, so that the jog wheels, knobs etc etc can still connect to their places on the motherboard. wont be very hard wearing. Think i'd still rather stick to metal to be honest. k |
Matt Kane 02.01.2010 | haha i wrote craving? nice one! carving is the word of the hour |
Al Henger 02.01.2010 | "Craving wood" He's from germany man, you know how they are with their high fiber diets. Like little termites. |

I mean, electric guitars are finished with lacquer (which isnt too durable), and people have been gigging with those for like, 60 years now. I actually believe I might undertake this project at some point (should probably focus on trying to actually get gigs first huh....). I've built a number of electric guitars from the ground up, as well as a couple ukuleles. This would be a fun project. |
Random X 31.12.2009 | Now let's get back to that wooden VCI project of e_p. |
Random X 31.12.2009 | Well... I would love to do a metal encasing for my BCR2000 once... though I doubt that will ever take place. |
Latoria Kavulich 31.12.2009 | yeah it would have to take a fair bit of punishment. would have some weight to it as well. a real design project for someone. |
Random X 31.12.2009 | Things is, I doubt it will have the durability of the metal encasing. |
Latoria Kavulich 31.12.2009 | there's a few different ways you could go about it. You could make something like a modular box with say 5mm MDF board, or a cooler but less precise way would be to have two halfs routed out at a joiners and fit together like a walnut shell. |
Merlyn Komula 31.12.2009 | yeah Id like to see this project in effect! |
Random X 31.12.2009 | Well, I know there have been some guys that wanted to start a similar project. Unfortunately it never started. So, I am looking forward to the finished project bro'! |
Matt Kane 31.12.2009 | hm...5000€ dunno why but this doesn |
Latoria Kavulich 31.12.2009 | My dad is a professional sculptor dude, wire me 5000 euros and i'll hook u up. |
