Numark V7 and Traktor Pro
Numark V7 and Traktor Pro Posted on: 01.03.2010 by Jesusa Keady Hey guys,Im looking into purchasing a fully midi turntable such as that of the: EKS Otus .....or..... Numark V7 at the moment, we (my DJ duo) are looking at getting the Numark V7 -MOTORISED full midi turntable with its own slip mat and mock-vinyl -5 hotcues + a shift button for 5 more the list goes on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=menCJNMKnks HOWEVER, it is made for ITCH users in mind. My question is: Can it be mapped to Traktor and still be able to use the motorised turntable and all of the other features. Any other suggestion for fully midi turntables or controllers with jog wheels which you can scratch with FOR TRAKTOR would be great. CHEERS | |

Scratching and rubbing the very same snare hits. - changing the pitch, this is where I hear a difference and artifacts. But these are the very same you would hear using timecode on a real turntable. And its really only double the price if you buy the shittiest comparable parts. Looking at the ns7 for 1300... 2 1200s is like 600 bucks, a basic 2 channel mixer like a pmc05 is another 2 hundo and that serato time code box is like 3 or 4 ain't it? Oh and without an extra controller you lose cue points, loops and looper, and file browser... |

It appears that there will be support at some point in the future, we just don't know if it will be 2 months or next year. With that said, I use ITCH with my NS7 and love it. When Traktor fully supports the NS7/V7, you'll love it as well. |

Jesusa Keady 03.03.2010 | Thanks BigC Here's what we already have MPD32 ICON icontrol (a generic brand midi just like Korg's nanoKontrol) Traktor Scratch Pro (Whatever, it's a crack version and works amazingly) Audio 8 DJ Numark 1050 mixer Stanton T.60 (selling) we use the mpd32 and icon for production and DJing (Using something similar to the traktork mappings found here for the MPD32) we wanted something which would also allow for great scratching, and the SCS.1d (the stanton mororised turntable, not the touch pad thingy one) seems the best at the moment. as it can control multiple layers, i love the realistic feel of an actual motorised platter, the motorised pitch fader, rotary encoders (pushable at that) im looking at this above the otus because: its FireWire and much faster and takes up less usb, seeing as everything else is USB powered (i have a powered adaptor for usb too) and because its motorised and i like the feel, and look :P even though the otus looks like sex anyway anyone have other ideas, or any other suggestion now that y'know what gear we're using? :P *edit* we're doing a duo thing, were one dj's the other messes with it in ableton, or one does complex effects and samples while the other juggles beats and Djs Using traktor to soundflower to ableton and price is not an issue, nor is mixer :P |
Audrey Pinda 02.03.2010 | A couple things I'd suggest: Figure out which software you would like to use first and foremost. Set yourself a price point (aka how much $$ you are willing to spend). Then take a look at all of the available controllers and decide which would be best for your style, fitting in those above brackets. Everything has it's pros and cons, so it really comes down to watching videos or seeing perform live with the gear IMO. What it seems like you are looking for is almost a piece of hardware that emulates vinyl with the deck. Honestly have you thought about going the CDJ route? I know it can be a bit pricier, but it looks like it could potentially have what you need in a well tested format. A lot of the CDJ's are MIDI compatible as well, so you'd have that to work with, along side a mixer. And if I'm not mistaken, CDJ's do have some similarity in features as the other options. If you're just looking for a great controller, I'd highly take a look at the VCI 100 and 300. Sounds like your doing this with a buddy, and my suggestion would be this: Traktor Setup: Computer - Audio 4 DJ - VCI-100SE - Cheap 2 channel Mixer - VCI -100SE - Audio 4 DJ - Computer This would allow you both to have virtual decks and the 2 channel mixer in the middle to switch between you both. I feel as though it's probably the most cost effective setup, besides switching off and on the same gear . ITCH Setup: Computer - VCI-300 - Cheap mixer inbetween - VCI-300 Computer Now I'm not sure if I hit the mark at all, but that's my 2 cents. The Otus seems expensive for what it is, but it may play right into your style. The Stanton 3d System is neat and either a great beginner tool or addition to a setup IMO. But I personally would see using other controllers and a 1d as a bonus for controlling effects/cue juggling possibly. |
Al Henger 02.03.2010 | I've played with the SC3 system. I liked the mixer (can do lots of things at once). I was a little meh about the platters. They were not terrible. Bento can give you some feedback on them. The Otus Raw should be coming out at some point eh? |
Roselle Mcnaul 02.03.2010 | My vote is for the EKS Otus - hands down. |
Jesusa Keady 02.03.2010 | so, then what would you guys believe of something like the: EKS OTUS or SCS.1d by stanton? |
Rebbecca Fennell 02.03.2010 | Ah lucky you, ha all my friends have ever offered for sale was an over priced mpc. This dude at work is seriously always asking me if I want to buy a 3rd hand well used mpc1000 for like double what they go for on ebay. Lol |
Al Henger 02.03.2010 | yeah man, wasnt an ebay deal. Got em from a guy I know locally. |
Rebbecca Fennell 02.03.2010 | No I get you man, I just believe some people have a knee jerk reaction to itch. where I see it as a benefit to me - I love listening to my vinyl transfers, little productions or digital library and anytime I hear something that strikes me being able to wind back and cue it, loop it, or sample it either in ableton or record it into crates in seratos browser. I've found myself with a lot more good one shot samples loops and other phrases actually recorded and saved for controllerist fun in ableton. Ha I'm no scratcher I just believe its of comparable price to dvs, has the platters, and depending on how you use it has the ability to act as a performance sampler capable of resampling. That's a good deal on 1200s last time I looked at ebay they were about 300 each |
Al Henger 02.03.2010 | eh, Dunno where you bought your 1200s, got mine for 300 total and they work like a beaut. Granted, I dont use timecode either, and right now the 1200s are only used for personal listening (I know, sacrilege). I'm on traktor pro, so I guess I'd have to buy the upgrade to scratch, or grab duo. After that im golden I guess. Hercules remix is good for timecode setups, cause you get soundcard and additional buttons (was a setup being sold over in the buy/sell section). Again, I dont scratch very much (see: shitty, please god dont let him scratch), but I assume that when you are getting into advanced scratch techniques, larger platter size starts to offer great control. |

Al Henger 01.03.2010 | Timecode vinyl? DJTT put it best: "we dont see the point of a controller that works almost as well as real vinyl, at double the price" |
Rebbecca Fennell 01.03.2010 | the platter isn't midi its HID. So if you map it to something it acts crazy buggy |
