Does your APC40 Hum?
Does your APC40 Hum? Posted on: 01.03.2010 by Joannie Brague Just got a new APC40, and I'm hearing an annoying hum.I'm super picky about gear. The noise isn't crazy loud when when I'm setting up a set I can def hear it. Is this normal? | |

Lillia Dubble 05.03.2010 | Yeah no hum from mine, but I also use a different power supply. The one that came with it is a direct socket-to-plug sort of thing. I left it at a friend's place where I wouldn't be back for a week...figured might as well get a second before getting back the other. Went to Guitar Center, talked with the pro audio guy, and he busted out a replacement that was meant for keyboards. He took it over to the APC40 demo station, did a quick test and all was good. This one has a big brick in the middle, so I bet that helps. I'm looking to build a rack mount with a power conditioner in it, not sure which will end up being mounted in there. Using the 'stock' one as the portable, have the brick here at home. |
Ernie Stieglitz 05.03.2010 | Ableton community had a bunch of people complaining about the whining noise, which is apparently caused by the psu. I believe I read someone trying another power supply and it helped. I guess it just means you're not loud enough. |
Milda Poucher 05.03.2010 | Can't say I can hear anything from mine or the AC plug. I would suggest making sure you have a nice "clean" current going to it. A decent surge protector etc. |
Laurel Litchko 03.03.2010 | mine makes a slight humming noise. but the room has to be silent for me to hear it, any noise will mask it very easily so its not a problem. but i understand how you feel. it bothered the hell out of me too! i thought something was wrong with it. |
Florence Alch 03.03.2010 | Mine hums until I open taktor then the noise stops! |
Branden Wentler 03.03.2010 | How do you know you don't have cancer? Maybe battle mixers make cancer invisible. I have an APC40 and it's definately not humming. |
Al Henger 03.03.2010 | if its from the power supply, thats your problem. Do you have the actual apc power supply, or are you using a knockoff? Regardless, Transformers have a lot of hum in them (like a fridge, or a computer). Its similar to like, a flouro light getting turned on right? |
Joannie Brague 03.03.2010 | yeah the hum is super low. and sometimes fades away after usage. It's not audible hum, sorry for not making my post clear. It's a slight hum coming from where the power supply is connected. I believe it's just a common thing. My ears are super sharp so I picked it up right away. |
Adolf Hit 02.03.2010 | If the hum is audible without putting your ear right up to the enclosure and no one elses does this it may pay to swap it for another. Low level hum in electronics is pretty common, generally its the coils of the inductor in the switch mode power supply vibrating against each |

Then thats another thing hahaha sorry my bad :P u should probably bring it back to the store - last time my playstation (the old school old one) was making some weird noise it actually exploded (about 10 years ago) , not really exploded but sparks and smokes came out if it! |

Al Henger 02.03.2010 | No problem man. Also, I'd buy that shirt. hahaha. |
Buster Kiper 02.03.2010 | Right on dude, sorry I snapped at you. I believe along with the Midifighter shirts we should have have shirts that say "Battle Mixers Prevent Cancer" |
Al Henger 02.03.2010 | Maybe I should have rephrased my post. I was responding to DJ zilch "how can something without a soundcard makes a hum?" The argument was not against getting the apc checked out, op should, I was just pointing out that there was some shitty logic going on above me. also, who hasnt dropped a grand or so on a fridge? |

Roselle Mcnaul 02.03.2010 | Too late. I believe that humming meant that it was growing appendages, it probably ate him. |
Al Henger 02.03.2010 | dude. Go out and stand next to your fridge. Does it hum? Does your fridge have a soundcard? |
Kandra Fagler 02.03.2010 | LOL how can something without a soundcard makes a hum? you better check your soundcard/speakers etc most likely it aint your APC |
Jina Moskowitz 01.03.2010 | I have one too and it definetly does not make a humming noise |
Roselle Mcnaul 01.03.2010 | I owned one, I can safely say it never made any humming noise. May wanna get a replacement before it turns into something else lol |
