M-audio Mbox 2
M-audio Mbox 2 Posted on: 14.10.2009 by Al Henger Hey guys, I happen to own this audio card for use with protools, and I was wondering if this would work as a external soundcard for use with traktor Pro. It has 2 mono outs, as well as a separate headphone monitoring jack. Any Ideas? | |

Wai Rofkahr 14.04.2010 | ^^ Great find! That's good you have gotten it working! You're on a Mac I assume considering you said "audio midi setup app". I wonder if I can get it working like this on my PC. I too was putting in work, and figured out that I can run my main mix in mono out of ouput #1 on the MBox (original mbox), and plug my headphones into output #2 using the 1/4" adaptor that comes with pro headphones. This is how I see it: Most clubs are mono anyways, seeing that speakers are everywhere, at the bar, left, right, above you, subs under the stage, etc. so mono is fine. The headphones work in mono, which is fine too, because I'm only using the left ear to monitor anyways. In Traktor, just set your main mix to output #1 and monitor mix to output #2! Good enough for now! |
Tisa Haynie 14.04.2010 | Hey all. Just saw this post and wanted to set people straight because this was something I battled with for a while and thought it was hopeless. It isn't! All you need to do is go to the audio midi setup app in utilities and create an 'aggregate device'. Basically this allows you to use both the main outputs from the mbox, to go to the main speakers/desk/etc AND use the headphone out of the mac itself to cue up your next track. It's just a case of creating the aggregate device which links your computer and your mbox into one super device. set your outputs in traktor according to the numbers you have just assigned to each output within the audio midi setup app. Hope this makes sense, it was a real breakthrough for me when I read this elsewhere so hopefully it can help you too and get you djing. Let me know if anything is unclear. Lego |
Al Henger 22.01.2010 | Its a damn shame... It works great with protools... I just wish it was such a pain. |
Efrain Scharr 22.01.2010 | I have one that was purchased so I could run protools at times. That's all thAt thing is good for. It does not play nice with other applications. I am not using protools anymore so I have put the audio interface up for sale. I searched all over the Internet to see if other people hAd the same problems and it is very commonfor the Mbox2 to give major feedback and high pitched noise when being used outside of protools. |
Al Henger 21.01.2010 | Yeah, thanks for the try. It seems like the headphone jack is not recognized by traktor. the headphone out is a stereo out. The Two 1/4 jacks on the back are both mono outs, and are the only 2 recognized inside of traktor. Somehow this card interfaces with protools to give you pre listening, but I just cant get it to work inside of traktor. |

Al Henger 20.01.2010 | as far as I know.... its not really going to work with traktor. Works great with Protools...... but, the latency is not great in traktor, and you cant headphone cue. |
Wai Rofkahr 20.01.2010 | Any follow up on this? I've got an MBox and have been wondering the same thing... |
Al Henger 21.11.2009 | Yeah, that does work... but i mean, the output 1 and 2 are on the back of the device, and the headphone jack is on the front. setting both to master and plugging my sound setup up to the headphone jack (its 1/4) gives a.... fuller sound, than if I just plug my monitors up to the 1 output set to master. |
Jayne Yellowhair 20.11.2009 | just try output one master, output two monitor, and see what comes out of your headphone jack. If it's the wrong one swap output 1 and 2 |
Al Henger 19.11.2009 | alright, so, epic thread res, but I got a bit of a problem. Inside of traktor, I can only find 2 outs for the mbox2, output 1, and output 2. The headphone jack is nowhere to be found. Anybody got any ideas on what I can do with this? Can I just set 1 to master, and one to monitor? I feel like this wouldn't work, but isnt that what the audio 2 does? |
Jayne Yellowhair 15.10.2009 | It should work with internal mixing, but not with external mixer because there are not enough outputs. To route audio signal from traktor to your Mbox go to preferences->output routing. Make sure internal mixing is selected. For output monitor select the headphone jack (you might need to fizzle around with the settings because I can't tell you exactly which output number it is) Do the same for the master output but make sure you select different outputs (you want the two mono outputs to be the master, and the headphone jack to be the monitor so you can cue up songs, and pre-listen) Good luck! |
