Getting into Hardware
Posted on: 08.06.2010 by Milissa Graeme
Hey guys! I know my title is vague, so here is a full explanation of what I would like to discuss.

So basically after listening to electronic since the tender age of 11 and hearing 1000's of electronic beats, i wanted to get into digital dj'ing. I was very lucky to get a great deal on Traktor Pro and started messing around with it. Now, not to seem cocky, I believe i am quite good at mixing songs, doing affects (both chained and advanced), so on and so forth. I understand there is still much to learn about djing in general, but I believe that I can learn very quickly and fall even more in love with one of the only hobbies (maybe start dj'ing college parties, im a college student now) ive stuck with. This summer ive been (and still going to) breaking necks and cashing checks and im ready to get into the hardware game (soo excited).

So after that intro, heres my question and I would love to hear what everyone has to say.

Being that I typically play dance, techno, dubstep, electronic music in general, what should I start off in getting? Ive thought about getting the Kontrol X1 as a start to just make my knob turning more physical, but now im wondering what would be a compilation of gear or anything else that would be better suited toward me being able to fully dj without having to get other components. That being said, I understand that there are some necessities such as a sound card such as Audio 8 or 4 or 2, etc. But im looking for a multi-use gear (as an example, Ill use the VCI-100SE due to the fact that it has mini turntables (or joggers...sorry still learning the lingo) cue buttons and bunch of stuff compiled into one piece of gear . Im just overwhelmed with the amount of choice I have...(its driving me crazy)

Can anyone make sense out of my insanity that is for first ever gear for a college student who wants to take their keyboard and mouse clicks to the next level???

any suggestions or product advice would greatly help me out!

Thanks in advance,

Adam (Still believeing of a DJ name)

That's good stuff there, but I have to throw in the VCI-100. You can do the firmware update and arcade mod yourself to save some money.

The VCI-100 works great with Traktor Pro. If you do the firmware upgrade it works even better.

[QUOTE=Schultzy0123;129892]okay, sounds good!

but where should i buy my regular vci-100? because (i might be an idiot) its says on DJTT store that the regular VCI-100 is not designed for Traktor PRO, only LE....basically my question is if I got a regular VCI-100 and then firmware updated it, would it work exactly like the VCI-100SE sold on this site?/QUOTE]

Yea of course, thats what the VCI-100se is, a black VCI-100 with the overlay, and a firmware upgrade...

Oh yea, you can also ask in the buy and sell section for used items, (got a vci-100 for $300 there)

Yea, i believe the basic is a VCI-100, some pad controller, and a audio 2 or 4, depending on what you want, i bought my entire audio 4 and vci for 400 bucks, they were both used, and now i save a lot of money!
