mixing with only laptop(usb) and a mixer
mixing with only laptop(usb) and a mixer Posted on: 14.07.2010 by Kimbra Golland Hi!I am a total rookie in the world of digital dj'ing. Anyways, i decided to just go ahead and buy a Behringer vmx200 usb pro mixer, believeing that i then could easily mix music straight from my laptop via usb without anything else. Funny enough i cant make it work. i am using traktor software, but i can only get the 2 decks from traktor to play in the one channel in the mixer. Does anyone know if it is even possible for me to mix with both 2 channels in my mixer, with the usb from my laptop as the only input?? I wonder if i just need the right setup in traktor (fx a tks file), which is what i hope cheers | |

Monroe Vandeslunt 15.07.2010 | If you wanted to make it a serious setup rather than just a hobby you would need something like a denon x1600. You can assign each of the channels to decks in traktor. Using analog mixing controls rather than midi messages. You can then also use the other assignable midi buttons (which have no set purpose) to do things like play, cue, transport of whatever else you can believe of. |
Rebbecca Cornelsen 15.07.2010 | The mixer may only have one stereo output but it is still possible to mix with it. In your output routing settings you select the right channel output for deck A and the left channel for deck B. All your sound is in mono, but it's not a bad thing. Very few clubs are wired in stereo anyways. If you are just a bedroom DJ then it really doesn't matter, don't over believe the gear
at this point. Learning to make your mixes sound good is way more important than the fidelity of your sound. A lot of us started on shit gear, and made the most of it. Probably learned more because we did it the hard way. I've got a full DVS setup with nice turntables, and haven't used them for a gig in months. Lately all I use is a laptop, an Audio DJ2, a mixer and an Akai LPD8. I find i'm more creative when I limit myself. |
Dalton Billson 14.07.2010 | Get a Native Instruments Audio 2DJ. Much better than the Numark I/O. Either will solve your problem though |
Kimbra Golland 14.07.2010 | I am using a laptop pc. A few people have suggested me to get a numark dj/io audio interface to solve my problem. Can anyone confirm that this will do the job? i cant wait to finally start mixing all my favourite tracks |
Leeanna Ayla 14.07.2010 | I don't know enough about external mixing to offer any good solutions. I can tell you since that's not a midi mixer you'll have to set it up as an external mixer in preferences. You can set the layout to 2 deck or 4 deck internal or external on the main page, but you need to go into preferences and in output routing select external for it to work that way. Are you using a Mac or PC? Do any of the guys smarter than me know if Asio4all will help him out? |
Kimbra Golland 14.07.2010 | thanks a lot bro! im starting to understand this a little better now. a friend of mine told me that i could get an audio interface with four RCA outs (two stereo RCA outs) to do the same job. example: Maya 44 USB. This confuses me a little. I want to be a 100% sure that whatever i buy will fix my problem. Can i go with both solutions or? Just to be certain, what i want is to be able to play my 2 separate songs from traktor (A&B) into 2 separate channels in my behringer vmx200 usb mixer. |
Patty Mcgilbra 14.07.2010 | i believe you'll need an external soundcard to have 2 sound channels and then assign one to each side of the mixer. so the mixer isnt the problem but your souncard is |
Kimbra Golland 14.07.2010 | Concerning my Behringer vmx200 usb pro mixer. (using traktor 3) Thanks djpbe (although i am still in a state of confusion) I have tried all the options in output routing setup, both internal and external. The music from both deck A and B in traktor will only play in the one channel in my mixer. Can anyone confirm if it simply is not possible, with an Behringer vmx200 usb pro mixer, to play 2 different files into the 2 channels separately from a laptop via usb as the only input?? I'm starting to believe that i will have to get me another mixer. As i understand it should be possible to mix 2 separate files with just a laptop and a 2 channel usb mixer, or am i way out there? |
Rebbecca Cornelsen 15.07.2010 | You have to check your output routing setup. You should be able to set deck A to one output, and deck b to the other. It may do this automatically if you switch to external mixing. Traktor will usally default to internal mixing. |
