mixer that can perform like controller and analogue mixing? Posted on: 27.08.2010 by Robert Kelton Hi all!i'm currently looking to build a system that requires u guys out there to give some advices! thx in advance! i'm looking for a mixer that can do the following: 1. as a midi controller to control traktor pro/traktor scratch pro (preferably 4 channels mixer with knobs) 2. can feed it with 2 turntables that use time coded vinyl 3. act as a stand alone mixer with 2 turntables or CD players if traktor fails or my computer exploded or something ... hahahahaha is there anything out there that can actually do this? i like the xone 4d but it seems it's entire digital and must work with a DJ software. help me guys.... thx again! | |

Ralph Alderette 29.08.2010 | Ive gotten to consistently use my friends djm800, and though its not of the same build quality admittedly as more expensive mixers (in the sense that mainly the faders feel like they could break Eventually with rough use), it does a BUNCH. right now i have it set up with 2 external decks, w channels 1 and 4 as fx, sampler for scrubbing and cue points, crossfader section for track load/select, and i keep use of my microphone. i have an audio2 so until i get a card with more outs, im very happy with the layout. i JUST finished mapping it actually what sold me, mainly, was this thorough review: http://community .speakerplans.com/inside...217_page1.html the guy took it apart. |
Francina Decosse 29.08.2010 | xone:4D is an analogue mixer. It uses very similar schematics to the Xone:92, including the dual filters and the send/return busses. It has the USB2 audio interface built in and hooked internally to the analogue mixer + 2x 1Ds on the side for MIDI control. It's a great choice! The S4 is a controller with just one input bus capable of outputting to the master directly in case of software failure. That's why you have the GAIN knobs on the back for line 2 - to control the level of the feed to the master as it's not passing through the faders. I would also suggest you to look at the Denon's DN-X1600 and the Mackie D4. They are both digital mixers with built-in audio interface. None of them include transport & EFX control for traktor, but there is the NI X1, which is a perfect companion for these. Cost wise, the combo may be cheaper or the same as the 4D. |
Danae Dumler 27.08.2010 | I've never been a Behringer fan either but I've been hearing really good things about people who went for this mixer. The price difference between it and anything else capable of what it can do is pretty substantial so I'm really hoping to play with one myself some time before drawing a conclusion, but even people who dislike most Behringer gear have said good things about this particular mixer. Anyone have first hand experience? |

Alta Corea 27.08.2010 | Never have I liked any of their mixers. Seems like they have been throw together. Feels to fake when it comes to the sliders and pots. Just not my Cup of tea. But we all have Opinions. So the Next man might Love the mixer. I myself and a Pioneer, A&H, and Vestax person. |

Essie Rutar 27.08.2010 | I don't believe the S4 includes an analog mixer, like the xone4D. The inputs mentioned are sound card phono/line inputs for use with the traktor DVS, so that most probably means that in order to play a normal record, you have to have a laptop with traktor open and the 'through' option on the virtual decks. That is, if the sound card behaves like the audio 8, which it should. |
Robert Kelton 27.08.2010 | dear progen and ciar2001, u mean 4D can be used as a stand alone analogue mixer without using Traktor (or similar)? in other words, 4D can also be mapped to control traktor, and if shit happens, i can forgo traktor all together and just concentrate on mixing from 2 turn tables? wow, i didn't know that.....4D it is then! thx any other input, guys? |
Leeanna Ayla 27.08.2010 | From the NI site.
Two analog stereo inputs are provided with both phono and microphone preamps, allowing the connection of turntables, CD players or external audio gear. The additional auxiliary session input allows you to hook the S4 up to other analog gear.
I believe you get basic functions, but don't have things like filters and loops and stuff like that which is dependent on the software. Maybe Karlos can clarify. |

Gregory Finely 27.08.2010 | ? I have a Xone 4D and it happily takes my 1210's along with my digital set up, I only use Traktor Pro so don't have DVS but if i want to mix straight up vinyl i can without any problems. |
Jessika Kienast 27.08.2010 | Huh? Since when did the XONE:4D become incapable of handling analogue inputs? It has a built-in soundcard but that doesn't mean it can't do what other analogue mixers can. I wouldn't mind one in a jiffy. Only problem is that it isn't exactly cheap. AND portable. |
