Cant use VCI100 as Midi Device on Traktor
Posted on: 15.09.2010 by Neely Nganga
Looking for some urgent help please..

Running windows 7 with Traktor 1.26. Traktor recognises my VCI100 but when i go to controller manager, select VCI100 as the IN PORT and OUT PORT, it will NOT save it as the controller. When i go back in to controller manager after exiting, the controller defaults back to Generic Keyboard. IN PORT IS KEYBOARD, OUT PORT is Blank and cannot be changed. Every time i try to change it, it will not save as VCI100.

My VCI was working absolutly perfect up with Traktor until i came back from a two week holiday in which it hadnt been used. It is unable to update drivers for the VCI100. I have also tried to import the TSI settings but they are not working. Midi light in ON but does not flicker as i touch. VCI100 is powering. Just doesnt seem to be sending midi to Traktor.

Exactly the same thing is happening with Core, and my Oxygen 61. Showing as device, however does not let me select it permenantly.

Anyone?

Thanks

Re-reading this and it seems like your not selecting the VCI as the controller, then selecting the in/out ports. That's why out is not selectable, because there is no out for keyboard mappings.

Wiped and Reinstalled, Runs perfect now! Driver for VCI installed first time round. Would not install properly before wiping the laptop, i had an idea all along that was the problem. Thanks for your help everyone!

I tried the DJTT mapping there, i got it appearing in traktor in control manager. But still nothing! I selected the VCI as input and output, left, came back, showing once i click on MIDI controller. Midi light is on but no control. All the mapping set out in the mapping sheet in the controller manager.

Ive now uninstalled, reinstalled and getting the following messasge...

Could not initialize Traktor with root directory set to C/Documents and settings/x/my documents/Native Instruments/Traktor/*Reset Root Directory to default value.

Then a second box appears...

Could not initialize Traktor . Logfile "Traktor Log" Could not be accessed and is propably write protected.

Tried to delete all my traktor files from every directory. Reinstalled using Desktop as file location and STILL get the same message. About to throw this out the window!

Again, cant stress enough-i had the VCI working absolutly fine before going on holidays. My windows may have updated when i turned back on, but surely this shouldnt have anything to do with VCI not working.

Any other suggestions folks, really appreciated.

PS its a black VCI100, not SE.

Are you set to internal or external mixing? I believe the option is in audio output in the preferences pane, but I'm not looking at Traktor right now.

sounds to me like there is no tsi loaded or no information in the tsi
are you using the DJTT mapping or any other?

Ok, that cant the problem then...

As soon as i select Midi In port for Vestax VCI100, the midi light appears on the main traktor page in the little mixer as blue. I also select Out Port which is fine.

But when i try to use the VCI, absolutly NOTHING happens. No faders, buttons are wokring although the lights are on on the VCI. Data is being sent from the VCI but traktor does not seem to be picking any midi message up.

Using the latest version of Traktor, 1.26. Just to clarify, there was no problem whatsoever but left my laptop for two weeks without being used. Do you have any other suggestions?

Tried the TSI delete reinstall option - nothing. This is killing me! Cheers

It's normal for keyboard to be the one you see when you open controller manager that's just because the keyboard mapping was loaded as the default by Traktor. You should be doing everything in these steps. Use the big import button to load the tsi. Use the big import button again to load the tsi a second time. it's a big file and sometimes traktor needs it to be loaded twice. Select the vci in the drop down list as the controller and set the in/out ports to the VCI. Close the controller manager and reopen it, the keyboard should be what you see as the controller. Select the VCI from the drop down and the in/out ports should still be set to the VCI.

If you want to import another tsi for a different controller you'll need to use the drop down list and not the big import button. Everything else should be the same though.

the ports of the vci mapping change to keyboard? thats not possible, cause the vci mapping is generic midi and not generic keyboard..

it is normal that the keyboard mapping is always first in the list. try deleting and re-importing the vci tsi.

Are there any firmware or drivers available for the VCI? I believe that this could be the root of the problem.

Kontrol X1 works perfectly without assignment also

It wont save it dude, i select VCI100 IN + OUT. Leave the screen, go back in and Keyboard is there. Is there anything else you can suggest? When i plug into all USB ports it does say that the VCI is there but driver failed to install properly.

it is normal that you see the generic keyboard first in the drop down menu of the controller manager. this just means that theres a keyboard mapping, which is (correctly) assigned to the IN keyboard. there is no OUT

select in this drop down menu the vci mapping and change the IN and OUT port accordingly to you vci.
