beginner dj having dillemma! i have about 900 to spend on a setup but idk which one.
its either i drop all my money into the s4 coming out or i buy a cheaper controller, like the numark total control,vci100se ,or hercules rmx , and i could have extra money to buy other things like speakers, headphones, lights, etc.
i want to play at house parties and such to meet more people. and once i get better i will upgrade to better gear

the mixtrack is as basic as it gets and doesnt have very much room for growth. biggest problem with vci-100 is that its only 200-300 bucks cheaper and you still have to get the software and soundcard before you can play. unless you do find a decent used one for cheaper of course.
i played around with the mixdeck for a couple months before i got bored fast and returned the piece of sh** to afford the s4. im believeing a majority of people who frequent this community
will be investing in the s4. and since the vci was the "standard" controller, this website has a LOT of info and help with mappings and updates coming out all the time. so i expect it to shift to the s4 as the "standard" controller
for a beginner the s4 will be complicated at first but it will take time to get use to.
and to me it dont matter what the standard is, I just want to have fun with it and go to house parties and meet new people. but im planning to get the s4 anyways because if i get a vci, audio 2 and traktor pro software it is almost to the price of the s4. so mind as well get the s4. |

Gotta remember that S4 (If I'm believeing correctly) comes with a full copy of traktor and a soundcard. If you get a VCI 100 SE, audio 2 and traktor pro you are only a couple hundred shy of an S4 anyway.
yeahh true true so mind as well get the s4 and it will be overall better all in one then rather then have a bunch of wires and stuff |

Do you have software now? If not the S4 gets much closer in price to a VCI + software + soundcard. It's still a little more, but you should have enough to get some decent headphones. You'll have to save up a little for speakers, but you'll not have to sell your stuff and upgrade later on.
no i dont have the software right now was planning on buying it later. yeahh true im keeping my options open and i feel like at first it will be complicated and it will take time to get use too but i will get it eventually. the s4 is a great controller so i might get that now. |

member and strike a deal for a used VCI-100 either SE or not. But you'll hhave 400-500 left depending on how good a deal you can get. With that you can pick up a great set of speakers and an Audio 2 if you didn't happen to get one out of the deal for the VCI-100. Yes the S4 is the latest hottest controller but to be honest it may be a little over your head if your just starting and may discourage you more than anything. Then you just spent a grand on something that frustrates you. I say buy less expensive gear
to get your feet wet and get the feel of it. Now I say less expensive because don't go out and buy the cheapest thing out there. There are few brands that put out "quality" controllers like the VCI-100. Do some research and get what feels best for you.
yeahhh i rather get the cheaper stuff first to start off and then upgrade. i was believeing the s4 was to complicated anyways. yeah i might get the vci100se or i seen the numark mixtrack pro that is coming out soon too might look into that |
