What's the perfect mixer for my setup?
Posted on: 25.10.2010 by Londa Dalipi
Hey all,

I have a technics 1200 mk2, looking to buy another one for under 300.

I just traded my xone 1d for a kontrol x1. I have traktor scratch pro.

At the moment, my friend let me borrow his pioneer djm 707 mixer.

I was wondering what mixer would work with my setup.

Eventually i want to get a Maschine, but for now i've been learning how to scratch. I love house music. I enjoy the effects traktor has. I can't wait to use timecode vinyl.

I want to be able to mix using traktor but also go analog. Im a big fan of DJ rafik's setup, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6bapWp-4k0.

Let me know what you believe

evo5 with eternal cf - best of both worlds, absolutely unbeatable. at least until ecler releases a successor.

Hey Luigi. I just picked up a XONE 2:02 (see link). I love this mixer. Some people hate the look of it but you could always go to styleflip.com and design it the way you like. Everything about the mixer screams quality. The line faders feel great but the xfader is absolutely amazing. IMO you will not find a better mixer for scratching and @ $299 it is a fuckin steal. I added some dicers to my setup last week and they are perfect for us timecode guys. Enjoy your X1!!

EDIT: I noticed you want effects as well. The XONE 2:02 is not going to fit the bill on that front. Why use effects on a mixer when you have an X1 and Traktor? Another great option would be a XONE 42. I see them posted in community s for around $650- $700 from time to time. You could drop a Pro X fade in the 42 and you are golden.

Would it make sense to buy a mixer that doesn't double as a midi controller, like the s4 or evo5 since I own a Kontrol X1.

So far i'm heading toward the Ecler Hak 360 that DJ Rafik uses. But I know I'm more of a club dj than a hip hop dj.
That being said, I saw many people suggested the ddm 4000, but I hear behringer gets a bad name.

Is there a mixer that has a good crossfader, some effects but not too many since I have the X1 and will eventually get a Maschine, works with traktor scratch pro, and is less than $750.

I know this is a tall order but I'd love the feedback.

Thoughts?

Stay away from behringer, you need somehting that will retain value and not break.

Behringer DDM4000 is a great mixer. Not only is it a great house mixer, but it is also fully MIDI mappable. Also, since all of the frequency cutoff switches are extremely low and the fader is extremely well made and adjustable easily, it makes use for a really good scratching mixer also. I would highly recommend this mixer.

Thanks for the suggestion, but i'm trying to keep it under $750.

Thanks for the reply

Hey, just wanted everyone know that i'd prefer a mixer that is great for scratching but has the digital ability to work well with traktor scratch.

DJ Rafik uses a Vestax PMC-05 Pro 3 DX - 2 in the above video and probably a ECLER HAK 360 ion his other vids. Thoughts?

Any other suggestions for my setup, from needles to more gear and even some albums i should get, are much appreciated.

I'm a fan of the Bloody Beetroots, Robbie Rivera, Gold Panda (Downtempo- Experimental artist) , Daft Punk (especially Discovery) , and Deadmau5.

Thanks!

I LOVE my Tascam X9. A lot like a Pioneer DJM800 BUT with parametric EQ's (why don't more mixer's have this?) User definable Up fader and cross fader curves. It's an older mixer so you can probably find one cheap. Both spdif and rca inputs. Just my 2 cents

How about something like the NUO4 .. or bBehringer DDM4000 (depending on your budget) it'll give you full midi control as well without needing extra gear..

of Course S4, Denonmc6000, A&H 4D .. sky's the limit (or budget might be)

The fact you are using scratch pro I guess the S4 is one of the better options as its got the functionality built in as does the A&H

keep the sl1200's and x1, stir in s4 and spice with two dicers. Add Maschine to taste

Oh wait, that's the setup I want
