Best way to set up monitors
Posted on: 04.03.2013 by Elvis Woodis
Just bought a pair of M-Audio BX8 D2's and just wondering what's the best way to set them up to my Macbook Pro. I'm going to buy a pair of XLR cables to connect to my 4Trak, but how do I connect them to the Mac?

Is it easier to connect through 4Trak and use the 4Trak soundcard?

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks

5 meters should definitely do it. I'm just setting them up to a desk in the corner of my room.

Thanks for the help.

You'll need a 3.5mm to 2x6.35mm cable like this:

Cheers Makar1.

Will scour eBay now.

Makar,

The M-Audio BX8 don't have RCA inputs, just XLR or TRS. I believe.

XLR to XLR is safest as it avoids any connection confusion, and is more secure/durable than TRS.

Also,

Is it best to do XLR female to male, or XLR female to TRS jack?

You'd need a 3.5mm to RCA cable like this:

Make sure it has enough length and can be split down the middle to let you send the left/right connections to each monitor.

Thanks Makar1,

And if I wasn't to use my 4Trak (space reasons). How would I set them up to my Macbook?

The 4TRAK sound card is likely better than the Macbook's built-in audio so that's probably the best way for you to connect your monitors.
