S4 or X1 ?

S4 or X1 ?
Posted on: 16.02.2011 by Michaele Mehn
Hey guys,

i feel like moving forward and sell my beloved VCI-100.

I would prefer a set up that cost less than 1000$.

I was believe of buying a s4 or two x1's and a behringer DDM4000 mixer.

The s4 would be around 950$ with shipping and the other set up 1000$.

I am wondering

1. what do you believe about that
2. what soundcard do i need with the two x1 and DDM4000 mixer. Does it work with my DJ i/o?

Thanks a lot

^this, not to mention the layout evening mare.

It will work with the DJ I/O but only for 2 channels (unless you output mono) so I would recomend grab an Audio 8 or similar.

thanks for the feedback! ATM, i am playing only at friends partys and some lil gig, going from 40 to 200 peoples. So there is no mixer where i play, as i don't play in clubs yet (i'm 16).

The newer versions of the ddm4000 like mine don't have the bright blue leds, they are green and not bad at all.

It depends on what you want to achieve.

2 X1s + an Audio 10/8 is very lightweight and portable, but you are reliant on installation mixers.

The S4 is bigger and less portable, but it's an all-in-one unit.

What sort of parties will you be playing?

I have the x1 set up your taking about and got everything used

2 Kontrol x1 ($320)
DDM4000 ($250)
Audio 8 ($180)
Total: $750

I love my set up, its pretty damn portable (especially if you don't have to bring your own mixer) and its far cheaper then a new s4. So that's my 2 cents anyways.

Edit: forgot to mention you also get full control over all 4 decks and effects banks (and have more then enough controls for the sample decks when traktor 2 comes out) which is not something you get with the s4.
